Rising charges.- could it be a faulty meter

Options
I wondered if anyone can help me. I am currently paying £235 PCM for gas and electricity which strikes me as a huge amount given we don't live in a massive house - it's 4 bed detached. The boiler is services by bg and there is only my wife plus 2 children as well as me that live here.

The price tariff is websaver 10.

I have tried to use on of the smart meters to try to isolate if there is a single appliance causing the problem but can't find it. Can i force BG or the meter companies to test the meter equipment?

Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Never mind smart meters. Never mind £/month. A problem like this needs you to start by looking at meter readings and consumption. Are you using more gas? Are you using more electricity? Or is your consumption level but the tariffs have gone up?

Yes, you can force your supplier to test the meters. They can force you to pay for the test, though, if (more likely when) it turns out the meters are not faulty. This will cost seventy to eighty pounds per meter.

But before gambling away £150 on such a long shot make sure obvious problems (being billed for an imperial meter when you have a metric meter) and obvious sinks (four bedroom detached house) that are free for you to check are inspected carefully first. As DVardys suggests you must inspect your current readings and consumption pattern first and compare them with what you have historically been billed.

Are you paying a high amount because previous bills have been estimates and you have now had actruals readings which have upped the DD?

What sort of house is it, modern & insulated to the latest standards or old & poorly insulation?

As others have said dont quote £s quote kwhs, how much have you used for each fuel over the last 3-6-9-12 months?
