Problem foxes (merged threads)

Does anyone know a way to prevent foxes digging up the garden?
My lovely recently renovated garden keeps getting dug up every day by the !!!!!!s.
I've tried "Get Off" sprays, Chilli powder and even motion sensor flood lights without joy.
Any suggestions?

  • You used to be able to buy some stuff you can buy that smells horrible to foxes (and to humans too, if you get too close!) - I think it was called 'Reynardine' or something. It's no longer available (EU dontcha know), but there are other similar products you can use.

The link below is a useful info sheet from Barking & Dagenham council about how to keep foxes off - don't know why they are so interested but there you go:

    (this is the general link)

(This is the one for foxes)

Good luck - we have them as well, but they seem to have stopped digging up my garden. Mind you, I have to put out stuff to keep cats away, so maybe that works for foxes as well.

  • Foxes do not like the smell of human (male) urine so if you have fairly secluded garden you could um 'water' the corners / entry points. (very MSE!)

human hair is another deterrant - i'm sure a local barbers would be happy to supply you with some.

LOL i'll try those. Is it illegal to sprinkle broken glass on the soil?
  • give the fox a plentiful supply of scraps away from your own garden,by tipping over a neighbours bin in the late evening?
  • You could always try the old remedy - ask your local hunt to come round and sort the fox out.

Then again I seem to recall something about hunting being made illegal or did I just imagine that!!!

Very funny but so true if your garden is not secluded use a bucket and water it from that.

You should not spinkle your lawn with glass as that will cut their feet and other animals feet to ribbons and I know that you are fed up with them but do they really deserve that.

If all else fails get some chicken wire (holes about the size and shape of 50 pence piece) and either lay it on your lawn or use it to strenghten you borders.

Urban foxes are opurtuntists. When all food is gone they will also go.

  • Hi, we had the same problem for two years ,massive holes and tunnels all over the back garden, we tried everything that was recomended, spent a fortune, in the end the only thing that has worked was an electric fence ,cost about £200,I know it seems expensive, but its done the job.

    good luck

    Hi,
I am at my wits end!! I live in a detached bungalow with flat roof garage and a small sloped lean to type conservatory on the back. Last year the foxes had a field day in my garden (which i love keeping lovely!),i tried everything, spikes on the 6ft fences (meant for cats),chicken wire covering the side metal gate , blocked all visible small holes up. Now, 2 day ago i washed the conservatory roof, lovely anc clean. Got up yesterday and scratches all over it and a big pile of fox poo in the middle! Thismorning, yes another pile of fox poo. They are somehow getting on my garage (probably jumping all over my KA in the process), they are then walking along the edge of the roof tiles and then on the conservatory, then juping on to next doors flat roof (we are all detatched)
I have tried diesel soaked rags as well to no avail!.
Has anybody any good advice to keep the nuisance pests away, we are overun with them all over our area. There is no rubbish or food sources in my garden, i am a very tidy and clean person, which i think they like!
HELP PLEASE! They are damaging my home.
    Cheers
  • There's a thread about it here

Try searching for fox deterrent for commercial devices such as high frequency sounders.
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

Look into getting razor wire brackets (you dont need razor wire) put these up along the roof line and screw wood boards or run rope through the brackets thsi will create a barrier to prevent the foxs jumping up, also works along fences.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
