HHI done then caught up a bit with the thread.

Im thinking of changing to flooring in the living room to laminate. Are there any downsides to laminate? Or is carpet best.

    s.

We have all hard floors downstairs - parquet in the hallway, quarry tiles in the loo and coat cupboard, ceramic tiles in the kitchen and oak flooring through from the kitchen round the diner through to the lounge (as its all one room really) its brill, but does show what dust and dirt there is!, a quick hoover and mop and its spotless though. I have a gtech sweeper just to run around quickly after the crumbs which saves getting out the dustpan and brush;) If you can run to it, I would highly recommend a proper wooden floor rather than laminate - its a lot more durable. I've had laminate before in a rented house and while its nice, the oak is just in another league and will last forever. We had engineered oak boards that just clicked and laid like a laminate floor anyway and were about as thin as a laminate board too. If you're going over floorboards you might need a chipboard floating floor first as otherwise the bounce in the boards makes the new floor loose.

We changed to laminated just over 2 years ago. I was the one that wasn't to keen (mainly because of the dog slipping) but I have to say its brillant. Anything can now go through the house (mainly kids and dog - neither wipe feet) and a quick sweep n mop and its as good as new. I amazes me what muck must be stored in carpets:rotfl:

Only problem we have is hound HATES laminate and wood. Can't seem to cope with the claws and sliding.

But you have to admit it's amusing to watch the hound work doubly hard to get to the otherside of the room...

I have laminate in two areas and stripped floor boards with a rug in another area. I have to say it's great if you have animals. The shed hair gathers like tumbleweed into corners so it's a breeze to dyson up...

    afternoon everyone
A huge Thank you to AnW'sMum for keeping you all posted with progress.
Thank you so much for all your kind wishes it is very thoughtful of you all.xxxxxxxxxxxx:A
I AM IN!!!!!! everything was moved by lunchtime and by mid afternoon there was only one room in chaos! It will probably be that way for a while but its the spare room so doesnt matter too much. The weather is glorious so thanks for all the posi vibes they def worked - if anything its toooooooooo hot!!!!
I have been eating outside and sitting in the garden and there is washing out - its great. Loads of unpacking still to do and find homes for things but I am trying very hard to deal with things as I put my hand on them - not cherry picking the jobs!!! It will take time but as AnW'sMum says it has all happened in 7 days!

I have met all 4 immediate neighbours and 2 of the ladies have the same first name as me and thats quite unusual!!! my neighbours either side are just slightly older than me and the 2 across the road a bit older again and they all seem really nice.

    have a lovely day peeps
    love and hugs
    toots xx
:j:j:jSo glad the move went well, toots, and that you are so happy in your new home.:j:j:j

soappie yes its hilarious to watch them slide. Particularly when you have a hound with a high sense of his own dignity. With the ice over the winter he got very put out.

PS - well done on your move toots - it sounds like it went very well organised and smoothly. Hope you settle in quickly
thanks fedup but it wasnt that well organised - most of it got thrown in boxes and black bags - but I am getting there!!!
serena not much in the back garden - it was totally overgrown so basically they have made a seating / bbq area and grass - there is a very wide border the full width of the garden so my gardener lady will have fun with that - I might email you a piccie when I have email that is so that I can pick your brains for ideas - if you dont mind that is?

right better go get ready for new thread and find my list - there will be a few things to delete I hope.

    toots xx

And message for Miss A - I think we all need to try some of your baking. I love coconut tarts but havent had them for ages. Well done for making them. Send our love to Master W.

lol I couldn't agree more! If I let her bake everytime she asked we'd be the size of a house in no time :rotfl: it is all so yummy. When you are headed this way I shall get her to make coconut tarts just for you :)

MissA~ how all the cakes were ok and the vicar / DH likes them.

The cakes were a hit with the rector and Mr rector :) They took them with a picnic to Clumber this afternoon and enjoyed them in the sun.

You watch the new fred will start now that I am off to chase the Sw's to bed!

well I slip slap slopped (when my colleague gave me the lotion) what with being a ginger and all

    so-o-o-oo-

in Valliland today I have ironed and put it all away, been collected by a colleague who then picked up another colleague and we had a planning session in the garden, at hers, with lunch, and Gordon;) and I got brough home and had to have a lil ol lie down because my back was aching (coff)

While awaiting my carriage I did some grubbing up of weeds on the patio and down the side of the house so looking very smart especially as I removed the pretty, but rampant, Toadflax..

and I have had my FIRST EVER TOPLESS car ride... in the back with my 'old lady' sunhat on (so my hair didn't blow all over) and sunnies on (so my eyes didn't fry in the glare of the sun or get grit in)

coming back I got the front!

House is tidy especially as DD did her room (unasked but thoroughly) - and three more days at work then IT'S THE HOLS!

Wishing you every happiness in your new home Toots x
