Kwik Fit Invoice Query

My partner took our car to Kwik-Fit just after Christmas to get the MOT and a full service for our Vauxhall Corsa c 1.2.

Because we weren't able to afford to get everything done at once, they fixed/replaced the most urgent things and marked others as for our attention at the end of the Vehicle Condition Report.

Kwik-fit really overcharged us so we're taking it to a place where I used to live that is a lot cheaper. This other garage said that if we let them know what was on the service report then they'd get the parts ready, give us a quote and we'd be able to organise one trip to get it fixed.

The problem is that thanks to the kwik-fit mechanic's handwriting, the service report is unreadable and we don't have enough time to take the car for a 40mile round trip just so it can be looked at first. :(

I understand that their part numbers are useless as they use their own, but I was wondering if I posted what I can make out of the descriptions, if anyone could let me know which parts are ok and help me correct which bits I've misread?

1) NB/R E/R
2) Rear shoes low &drums(?)
3) low on sqee(?) & wheel cyldis(?)
4) leehoy(?)

It looks like a pile of nonsense to me to be honest, but at this point I'm desperate to find out what this means.

    Hi there,

Kwik fit are notorious for ripping people off, saying work needs doing when it doesnt etc.
Watchdog did a report on them last year with regards to unnesary work being carried out and totally ripped them to shreds for this kind of thing - see here http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2010/09/kwik_fit.html

and here is kwikfits reponse:- http://www.kwik-fit.com/watchdog.asp

They not to be trusted, i wouldnt take anything they say seriously at all, you may well be worrying needlessly. - If it was me, i would ask the independant garage to look the car over, and never go to kwik fit again

I think number 2 is saying your break shoes and drums are low and number 4 is saying theres a problem with the wheel cylinder? dont know about the others though, but like i say, i would get it checked by the other garage

    good luck
The opposite of what you know...is also true

I took my car to the local KwikFit branch last week because of an exhaust fault - banging about on the vicious speed humps around here and getting a bit noisy. They found that one of 2 brackets holding the back box had broken and that it had slipped back a bit causing a slight leak. They replaced the bracket and rubber mount and refitted the back box - no charge at all and they didn't try to sell me anything else. Things are looking up...
  • Thanks, Ska Lover. I thought it might be, but I wasn't sure about those, so at least I'm now I'm certain that is what they mean.:)

Unfortunately, the others look like gibberish. I think you're right and sadly we're going to have to waste the money and time to have the car reassessed before we can have it fixed.

Wow, Datostar. That doesn't sound like them at all. I wish our local one had been so friendly. Tbh, I have a horrible feeling, looking at the invoice that we were well and truly ripped off for things we didn't need.

Unfortunately my fianc! and I don't know a lot about cars so we have no choice but to trust the garages we go to and learn the hard way about who is ripping us off and who isn't. :(
