Primer or something for oily skin

Options
I am in my late 40's- with all the skin issues that entails:mad: but yet I still have an oily t-zone area. My face starts shining a couple of hours after I apply my foundation, then my foundation starts to wear off unevenly and patchy. This isn't specific to just one foundation, it's a problem with all that I've tried, except one that has now been discontinued.
Can anyone recommend a primer that will help with the oiliness? I trid the Smashbox one but it made no difference.
If not a primer is there some sort of oil absorbing product that works?

I suggest you try a light layer of Milk of Magnesia (yes really:eek:) applied straight from the bottle with some cotton wool under your foundation, just a small amount otherwise it will flake, most primers for greasy skin are based on this anyway and make up artists use this trick all the time, you can use this long term but it can be a touch drying so moisturise well at night, apologies to those who have read this from me before:o but I hope its of use to you:)

I wish:D The MoM will make your pores look smaller and your skin appear finer but thats all it is unfortunatly, just making it look better, you can also use the MoM as a mask in a thicker layer but this didnt do much for me. I cant promise closed pores but an asprin mask 2 or 3 times a week (a few non dispersable tablets crushed into a paste with water and left on the area till it dries) works wonders for lots of people, you can do it less when you see an improvement, Its the salyclic acid in the asprin that clears out any grime etc and makes things look a bit fresher, the asprin mask is also good for targeting blemishes helping them to dry up - hth:)

    Hi OP

Try Body SHop's seaweed range - I use their SPF moisturiser. It's oil free and matifying. Perhaps ask for a sample to try some out?

Clinique's (yes I know it's pricey!) superbalanced foundation is the only one that doesn't go patchy on my skin. I also use (mainly) mineral powder foundations to help balance things out.

Don't forget to use a good exfoliator too as this helps the skin's texture :)

I have the MoM now, was out at 8am to buy a bottle! :rotfl:
I'm just about to do my make up so I'll give it a test run today and report back either tonight or tomorrow night.
I have to be honest, I thought it was a late April Fool when I first read it!

    Smashbox's primer is terrible.
I'd go with a primer by No7 (I've tried their anti-shine one and their anti-redness one and have found both to be very good) or the mineral one that I found by US company Fyrinnae; very reasonable prices and reasonable shipping too (plus of course with the feel-good factor of supporting an independent brand).

Well my report for today is that I saw a big improvement. The MoM is not perfect, but for the price of it who cares? :rotfl:
My foundation definitely lasted a couple of hours longer before I noticed any shine today.

Will do another test run tomorrow with something like Revlon Colorstay which tends to last fairly well on me compared to most others.

Does this not give your skin a grey tinge? Having battled with oily skin for years, my solution is a mid-afternoon repair job (blotting with tissue paper and then applying MAC studio-fix powder).

No it wont, just use a small amount after a couple of goes you'll find the right amount for you just dont use too much, the No7 one mentioned by angelil is what I used to use before I discovered MoM and it is very good but guess whats the active ingredient:rotfl:

Dawning, glad you had a good result, your skin will change (temporarily) as you continue to use it, it will become less oily and stay more matte for longer but this is where the dryness can creep in so monitor it carefully and give yourself a few days off and start again if you find its too dry:)
