USPS Priority Mail® International seems to be around $62 to the UK, 6-10 business days.

12lbs weight and 40x20x6 inches box.

100cm is about 40 inches. USPS obviously take larger parcels than RM.

Many thanks for everyone's advice and experiences. The theory seems viable - I just have to win the auction now!

ebay advise it wouldn't be a problem - paypal initially said it would, then said it wouldn't, but elligibility for protection seems grey for both buyer and seller.

The auction doesn't finish for a week, so I'll have to get to grips with the 'small print'.

Thanks again for everyone's advice. :)

But email the seller asking if its OK for you to buy it and then despatch it to a US address first.
Not doing so can cause problems.

Just looked on the USPS site and it is too large to send abroad, i presume they will be sending via courier

Just tried it on UPS and its £1,400 !

    Base Transportation:
    464.78 USD
    Declared/Insured Value Surcharge:
    0.00 USD
    Fuel Surcharge:
    751.85 USD
    Security Fee:
    129.87 USD
    Misc. Origin Fees:
    76.68 USD
    Total:

Wouldn't it be cheaper to collect inperson?

Don't forget that Customs Duty and VAT will be added on to any shipment of this value!

Not doing so can cause problems.

and doing so could well end up with the OP being blocked by a paranoid US seller who believes everywhere outside their boarders is “there be dragons” country.

If it’s on Ebay then he wants to sell it (and must accept paypal) and is willing to ship within the US as the OP has already stated

We buy tools regularly from the States (3-4 times a year).

I’d say about 50% come straight through and the rest end up in the duty/vat net
