We are getting a new TV and for aesthetic reasons I want an LCD. My husband has heard that they are not brilliant for watching football or rugby.
So to keep us both happy what spec should I look for? I was going for a cheapish LG but suspect that we might need a higher spec, like a Sony of some sort?
Could someone advise, in fairly simple language please, and perhaps suggest a model (32")

Try and see some in action.
A lot cannot cope with fast movement of any sort.
I am sure someone will tell you why, in a nice non techie way.
Trouble is in shops like Currys they have lovely slow moving pictures on all of their machines so you have no idea.
End creidts on programmes, scrolling upwards are a very good test.We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Have been thinking about an LCD for a while now but I am not sure about them for sport etc. Does anyone know what the best resolution & pixels etc etc are ?.0

Toshiba 32WLT66 is very good.
The quality of sport really depends on who broadcasts it. I find Setanta's 4:3 broadcasts are extremely bad - blocky and non-widescreen. On the other hand Sky's sport offerings are very good.
Sky HD for sport is brilliant!0 -
Ideally you would:
Go to a shop which sells conventional (CRT) and LCD TV's.
Watch a sports programme on the CRT and the cheapest LCD TV side by side
Swap the LCD for the next most expensive one
Repeat until the LCD picture is acceptable
Then see if you can justify the extra cost of the LCD.
However, finding a shop which will do this may prove difficult!0 -
Look for one with a fast response time, 8ms or less preferably. But as has already been mentioned, try and look at some in a store. Some people notice these sorts of things more than others.0

The problem is most shop show pre recorded HD pictures on the display tellies & it is difficult to compare.0

I bought a 32" LG LCD from comet just over a month ago and its fantastic.
Not sure what model it is but its the latest LG one.XD picture engine and SRStruesound.
Been watching the rugby and cricket lately and the picture quality is superb.
I paid £899 for the TV with an upscaling DVD Player about five weeks ago.
Unfortunately for me comet have a special offer on at the mo for £599! Bargain.0
