I found this advice from the pages of the BVA, it may help you.
http://www.bva.co.uk/public/faqs/#1When you're going through Hell, Keep going!
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation
Just when you think human beings can't get any stupider, they get behind the wheel of a car...
Become eternally poor in one easy step- decide to love Horses... :rolleyes:0 -
I would write to the Kennel Club and also possibly the local paper just telling your story. It had me in tears. Maybe if his name were known, patients would leave and then the b*stard would not make any money plus other pet owners would not be treated in this appalling way.
Try not to torture yourself about what you could have done for your beloved dog. I've been down that road myself and it is hell. You did what you thought was right and I'm sure your dog knew that you loved him. That's a lovely photo. Remember all the good times. I am so very sorry, Nina.0 -
I'd like to know which vet this is so I can avoid them just in case they are near me. They should be named and shamed.Aha, so thats how you do a signature!0

Thanks Saintjanet and Xenomorhic for your support and everyone else, words can't explain how people have been no kind and supportve on this board Thanks Pigeonpie I will look into the kennel club, its just so hard we keep going through everything over and over what happened that day and seeing the last moments of our eyes is too much too cope with. Hugorune I can't name him yet as we believe we think we definitely got a case but I appreciate your support. We were all last night researching on the internet on the spinal injury in german shepherds and realised the symptoms our dog showed were no even the paralysis of the legs the final state in German sheherds. His legs just had muscle and joint stiffness with the help of medication and a dietry change our dog still would have been here, this has even hurt us more and there was no need for the urgency to put him down.0

and this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/actionnetwork/G195If you are unhappy with some aspect of the way either you or your pet have been treated, your first step should always be to discuss your concerns frankly with your veterinary surgeon. Write to, or telephone your veterinary surgeon as soon as you can. Many problems arise because of a misunderstanding or lack of communication and can often be easily dealt with at this first point of contact. If you are still dissatisfied, ask to speak to a partner - the senior partner if a practice has one. If you concern has still not been addressed, you should contact the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. They are the governing body for the profession and deal with complaints. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
As you can see I am new to this forum and having read the above post I am glad to learn that the majority of the members are compassionat and caring individuals. I was however agast by certain members(saucepot) need to 'add insult to injury' . My point of view is that his response was uncalled for and totally irrelevant to Nina's recolletion of the events. I believe he (saucepot) also missed the point completly since the issue of the post was the unfeeling, cold and heartless conduct of the Vet and how to address his behaviour. I tend to believe that if you have ever really loved and have been loved, be it by an animal like a dog or a fellow human, you will be able to emphasise with the pain and loss of either. Needless to say Saucepot can not have been that fortunate for obvious reasons (see his post).
Nina. on a practical note, copy and past your post into a letter and sent it to the Editor of your FREE LOCAL PAPER, preferabel the one that also covers the Vet's postcode. I am almost certain he/she would be interested in such a story so close to the xmas season, they might even flush out a Vet who understands our close and heartfelt relationship with animals.
Nina, Your sheppy has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge-You might think of him the next time you spot a rainbow - he be the one running along his favourite colour.0 -

I think to state that the vet was negligent was a bit harsh. Certainly, it sounds like he was rude, abrupt, thoughtless and uncaring.
I am so sorry you had to experience this. We had to have our dog put down, but at least we were given time to say goodbye.
I would definately complain to the Vets surgery about the treatment you received - then leave that Vet's surgery forever (if you have, or get, any othe pets).
When you complain put it in writing and also tell all your friends to leave as well...... You are meant to be paying for a professional caring service not a rude , ignorant pig.0 -
What rotten thing to happen. As suggested, approach the practice first - it would seem that the vet didn't give a clinical reason for instant euthanasia.
If you're not satisfied with their response then contact the RCVS.
None of this will bring your dog back, but you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you put up a fight on its behalf......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
