Healthcare Cashplans: reclaim treatment costs Discussion Area

  • Hi
I have had a Healthsure Cash Plan for several years which covers myself, husband and 2 children @ £18.46 per month - there is no qualifying period for dental or optical cover, with the ;evel 1 plan you get up to £90 pa each towards dental and £100 each per 2-year period for optical (including glasses or contacts).

I can't see any of the other plans matching up to this one - Can anyone tell me different?
    thanks

there are that many confusing links and discussions on this topic I am completely in the dark! Where is the latest up to date link on the best policy for a family of 4 (hub 35 wife 36 and two lil uns 1 and 2). I have a pre existing injury that requires further surgery shortly (broken ankle), Please help Martin!:beer: forgot to add my max spend is around £30 a month for the lot of us)

MArtin- is there any chance that you could list those companies that don't discriminate against previous injuries for claims etc? Is there a specialist NHS employee scheme for healthcare plans?

  • Hello all, I am hoping that someone can help me.

I have been considering taking out a Healthcare Cashplan, but it has now been brought to my attention that as an employee of a public body I may be covered but unaware that I am. Unfortunately, due to the demise of the former Personnel Department I am having difficulties confirming this.

Can anybody tell me if the DWP is covered and if so, my initial point of contact.

    Thank you for your help.

I am with BHSF and they are really good.

However I am a heavy claimer (glasses, dental, physio and acupuncture) and last year they put my premium up, over and above the rate which was advertised to new customers! Even though I was still on the same level of cover.

I got married and switched to their family policy, and I am now paying the standard advertised premium for this, but I am worried they will put my premium back up again once I start claiming again.

Quite frankly I didn't know they could do this and it seemed really cheeky to me.

I am also with BHSF and have found them very good. But, last year my son became 18 and we had to take out a separate policy, now we have received a letter because my daughter has reached 18 too. This makes it very expensive as ours is £23.13/month and the two kids will cost £12.50/month. I am starting to look for better options elsewhere. Anyone sorted out better deals in the same circumstances?

Healthsure is better than you might think although Martin hasn't recommended it here. Most importantly there is no delay before you can claim benefits. You therefore don't need to build up a reserve of payments before you can claim expenditure back. The rates start at £12 a month but the benefits for this rate are very similar to Martin's top picks for single adults - Birmingham Hospital, Good4You and Bolton & District. Have a look - it may pay off.

Feeling the pinch but trying to bring down that mortgage - thank heavens for MSE.com!

  • Im currently paying for chiropractic treatment at 27pounds at session twice weekly. Is there any way around this with a cash plan or other? I need the treatment but not sure how much more money i can fork out!
    Please help!
  • I've been with Health Shield for 16 years and have always managed to recover my payment fees and more. I can aslo use the Dental payment to purchase another Dental plan if I wish. I've increased the cover over the years and am now on level 3 which costs @£57pm and covers my OH and would cover up to 4 children as well. I had to fill in a Health Declaration when joining, and declared type 1 Diabetes and Asthma and arthritis, the last time I increased the cover my arthritis had worsened considerably and they resricted Arthritis treatment to level 2. I claimed over £1200 one year for hospital admission, and we've just had some Screening for potential Heart/Stoke problems. I've also used complimenary medicine and my OH uses Psyotherapy to keep his knees mobile and so help him to keep working. They pay out in only a few days of submiting the claims, and I've never had a claim refused, even when I needed Dental treatment in Turkey and again in France, just make sur you get a bill.
Health Shield was first started for Railway workers, where I joined, and with privatisation opened to the genral public, it is a Friendly Society and is not profit driven.
I hope this has helped, for us it has been a lifeline as glasses and dental costs are covered....sadly I'm too old to benefit from the Maternity Grant which is @£400.

Does anyone know of a Cash Plan that would reimburse (full or partial) on the cost of teeth whitening? :D

Do the receipts have to say 'tooth whitening'?

Most of the companys are usually happy with a receipt that just says "Dental treatment" so long as it's a proper receipt and the dentist/practice manager has signed it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
