Virgin travel insurance

Hi all
Had annual travel insurance policy from Jan 2010 with Virgin, but moved address in Dec 2010. With everything going off forgot to inform them of my new address.
Just had a letter forwarded from my old address dated January 2011 and found that Virgin have automatically renewed my insurance policy without my signing for anything
Spoke Virgin call centre staff and advised that because I had missed the 21 days cool off period, basically I had no get out. Explained that I had moved address but told the same thing....

Is this right??? :mad:

    Very polarised answers to that.
    The pro insurance group who tell you "hard luck, you should read the t&c's, we always do", and the other side, who don't believe they have a right to dip into your wallet when they decide they wwant to.

    It's worth an official complaint to Virgin, then if they keep the same stance, you could decide to complain to the FOS, and see if they are prepared to rule once and for all on the pratice.
    You may win, you may lose, but it is a free process to you.

    Why would you complain to Virgin? It's not their fault that you forgot to advise them you had changed address - they haven't done anything wrong.

    You could try writing a very nice letter to them explaining what happened and see if, in this case, they may be prepared to cancel the policy from renewal without charge, but you don't have any grounds for complaint as the responsibility lies with the policyholder - insurers are not mind readers.

    You need to refer to the terms ytou originally agreed to.

    Many insurers (of anything) now offer a service to automatically renew insurance on it's expiration because there are many people like you who 'forget'.

    They do this by you agreeing to a continuous payment authority using a debit/credit card (or perhaps using DD, but usually only where the premium was paid monthly)

    Whichever, you had all year since originally taking out the insurance to cancel any automatic renewal on expiration - it's now over 2 months since that renewal date and you have been 'on risk'.
    If you had reason to claim in those last 2 months, I'm sure you would have submitted such a claim and expected them to pay out.

    Make a complaint by all means, but I fear they may refer you to their terms & conditions so check them again for yourself now.

    Ihave read all the details about the insurance claim through the links posted here. I think it has become evident that the insured person must be indemnified against his loss and damages.
