I went the full 12 months to AD and remember seeing fellow BR's who went BR same time as me on here, around the 5/6 months mark getting ED and feeling a little jealous But so be it, my AD came soon enough and looking back now it seems irrelevant, we are all BR's for one reason or another and should have nothing to feel ashamed of!

I went BR all alone, no help, didn't know anything about this place then, sadly.

My BR was nearly 7 years ago, didn't hear much from the OP after my initial interview, went to the court a few years later and paid to get my certificate of discharge.

Made no difference to me though as just carried on with being a BR as far as I was concerened.

I didn't bother with my credit reports or anything until about 2 months past my 6 year point and then had a look to see if I was 'Normal' lol

I'd got the preverbial Vanquis card and had my Cashminder account for years by that stage, My credit report was spotless, just nice green ticks all over the place

Not knocking people for wanting early Discharge (Not sure what, if any benefits there are?) But from what I've been through and has worked for me, is just live on what you can afford, save for what you need (LIKE) and after 3-4 years try for a card like Vanquis, killer interest, but if you pay it off, it costs NOTHING, and in the end, it's only after 6 years that you really start to be clear of BR...... Now got a normal bank account, a cheque book (only used once) and a proper Credit Card with a very good credit limit (And paid off in full every month)

But what a 6 years, I now how much money I have to the penny now in my bank accounts and my pocket, I know exactly what bills are coming and WHEN......

BR is a tough call, and a hard lesson in life, but also a very good one (Well I think so in my case), I do have to wonder though whow some people end up there for a second time! NEVER AGAIN lol

Good luck to you all though in this journey, It really is well worth it in the end, despite the stigma and permanent problems that you have to face in disclosing it if asked for the rest of your life!

I guess for a lot of people, myself included, the prospect of ED is appealing because it feels like a big step towards closure. You're no longer an undischarged bankrupt. Sure, 6 is the magic number here but getting discharged is the first step.

Thanks, not trying to put a downer on it, I'm sure it is a big step forward, It's one of the first positive things that happen to you after years of hiding your head in the sand, plus every day is another one closer to the magic 6 years

...and I guess even with ED it's still 6 years from BR date anyway.

It's just that the 'looking over your shoulder' feeling goes away a bit quicker with ED I guess.

Aaarrgghhh, now I feel guilty for making you feel guilty.

Didn't mean to, just trying to put it into perspective from both sides. ED is just a battle won a bit earlier than AD, but the 'war' is the full 6 years as it were.

Well can't disagree that much with that (Mines a Jack Daniels please) But maybe the War was before bankruptcy, waiting for discharge and the IPA is reperations, and the remainder of the 6 years is re building your new empire Tell I was military lol
