Inernational Banking - Best rates???

Hello,
I have $50,000 of loans from my american college fees.
I now live and work in the UK and earn good old £££'s.

I currently pay my loans with what is left in my american account, however i soon need to start paying these loans with my british earnt money.

Can anybody help with the best method of payment to either a) transfer money to my US account (£££ to $$$) from where i can pay, or similarly pay my loan directly from a UK current account.

I am willing to change my UK current account to get the best deal.

Thanks for any help.

  • How long have you been resident in UK and are you a permament resident of UK now?
Banks lend only to those who have been here for a minimum of 3 years.
Depending on how much you need to send back to US to cover the repayments most banks have an Economy International payment service for about £10 a go but with a max of around £3000 or equivalent.
Maybe one of the US banks such as Citibank would be your best bet but I have no accounts or dealings with them.

Maybe consider a Citibank account where you will be able to have a dollar and sterling account with free transfers between them, from your dollar account you should be able to pay your college loans back. However there is a minimum balance requirement.

Best bet have a look at the citibank website and give them a call and ask them about your situation.

  • I have browsed further and found a few people recommend https://www.moneycorp.com, does anybody have first hand advice on this website???

At first look it seems that they will charge £4 per transfer... which is very fair, considering i will want to transfer £300 - £400 per month, or maybe £800 every 2 months.
I cant imagine any method being this cheap.

Any advice on hidden % charges etc will be much appreciated.

    Thanks
