Try working on getting your gas & electricity payments down next. Our monthly payments used to be £80 gas & £70 electricity. We decided to cut out every bit of wastage and also to send in our own reading every time we received an estimated bill. Before too long, they reduced our payments & gave us a refund. Last year, they cut our payments again to £66 in total per month (for gas & electricity). We were quite wasteful before. Now, we wear an extra layer so we don't need so much heating, use our cheaper overnight tariff for running the washing machine, breadmaker & sometimes the slow-cooker, only boil the amount of water we actually require instead of a full kettle every time, use lids on saucepans, have more showers than baths, don't leave lights on, use energy-saving bulbs, all that kind of thing. It all sounds a bit tedious, but I don't care....the monthly payments have more than halved, so that's a result. Even things like not leaving things on standby & unplugging your mobile as soon as its charged all add up & help make a difference. I'd always prefer to see the money in our bank account rather than boosting the bonuses of those big energy company shareholders. Give it a go & see if you can get your monthly payments down...it'll free up money for something else.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (5/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg0
