hi, i'm pretty new and in a bit of a state so if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. i have a large o/d with the halifax and have gone ovr the limit.. I called the banks col;lections team twice last week to apologise and to promise to sort it out and they were really nasty with me and had me in tears, sobbing down the phone and were not helpful at all - my own fault I suppose. This afternoon i have had a call from them, more or less accusing me of theft and now I am frightened to death that the police are going to turn up, i cant pay the money they want, all my money goes into that account anyway and i've been crippled with charges. I have DMP with the CCCS and was going to include the O/D with that and now I don't know what to do. i can't get another bank account as I have a really poor credit history. Please could anyone advise me, I am sat here sobbing and I don't know where else to turn and dont know what to do about the police. I know its my own fault but I really am very scared.

Sorry to hear all this, it must be awful for you. Don't worry about the police coming round - that's not going to happen. I can't offer any constructive advice unfortunatley, other than to suggest you post this on the Debt Free Wannabe board, they're a friendly bunch who'll offer a whole load of advice and sympathy.
Stiff upperlip and all that, It'll work itself out in the end.

weller, the good news is that you can claim all the charges back! see that thread and get your money back from the thieving b@stards! on the other side, police will not be involved as you have not actually done anything, the bank are just trying to scare you...call your bank and explain ur situation and write and send off ur letter to claim back your charges!!!!0

Police won't turn up - it's not theft. It's not breaking the criminal law what you've done, so forget that aspect of it. They are a bank at the end of the day, not some gangland kingpin.0

Thanks for all your messages. I don't know if i have done the right thing but I have now changed my landline and mobile numbers so the Halifax can't ing me, contacted the CCCS who are going to inlcude the O/D in my DMP - they didn't want to really as debt occured after I started DMP but they were nice. Now looking for a new basic bank account. So very glad I found this site and am now going to try and reclaim all my charges from Halifax. Cheeky, aren't I? Thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!0

hi please dont worry about them meanies. i think they are trying to scare you into paying so that you dont try to claim back the charges or pay them what they dont really want in dmp.You are not to blame it is circumstance and there are many others like you in the same or even worse boat.At least you tried to be reasonable which they didnt, they dont deserve a customer like yourself - wipe those tears away and chin up im going to boycott them.Love can tame the wildest0

Hi weller711, be brave and I hope you get the better of Halifax. I have despised Halifax ever since they weaseled out of paying me a windfall when they demutualised, so I always enjoy hearing about their bad behaviour being exposed. I'm sure you'll come out on top:)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hiya
They do this whole bully boy tactics in order to get you to agree to something in the heat of the situation.
I would certainly claim back my charges AND I would write to the customer care team explaining the rather disgusting service you recieved from their collections team and ask for an explaination of how they can justify their behaviour, your call would almost certainly have been recorded, I don't think they can justify making a customer cry on the phone.
You go after them for every penny of charges you are owed, they are yours and not theirs.
