aviva car insurance no claims (warning)

Hi all, thanks to this site saved some monies on my renewal this year from swinton £840 to aviva £471, filled out form online, paid for policy, got pdf from aviva with new insurance policy.... This is where i noticed a grey area aviva no claims state upto 5 years no claims. Rang customer services straight away and asked them what this means at renewal time next year as i have 8 years no claims at present, Told my renewal will show 5 years no claims next year as this is all aviva need for maximun no claims. So what happens when i ring round for other quotes again told you will have 5 years no claims.... This means that i would lose 4 years worth of no claims.... Not good cancelled policy there and then ended up with tesco £564 not as good but i keep my no claims and a lot cheeper than swinton.
Hope this helps also keep an eye on how many crashes you can have and in what time scale as they are different with some companies.

I was going to go with aviva due to the price being pretty good but on checking the bit about the no claims i also noticed same as you, luckily i was still able to cancel it as i had only purchased it a few days before. I managed to get a quote albeit a little bit more but still a good price which took into account my number of no caims i have

Keep your Swinton's renewal notice, or a copy safe, if the original has gone to Aviva.

You would then be able to prove 8 years in 2011, no claims with Aviva (hopefully) albeit the max they show is 5 years, which hopefully any underwriter with a modicum of sense could see you have 9 years ncb in 2012.

Aviva can write a letter confirming that you came to them with X amount of years but they only recognise X as their maximum.
