That used to be the case, but has changed, I think within the last 12 months.
This has to be the key thing as they certainly were processed as cleared funds in the past. It would also explain the difference of opinions.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). paid my deposit by bankers draft this morrning at 10.30 and collected keys at 1.30. (had to make a few phone calls to push people along) but got what i wanted in the end. happy new house to me.

i paid a bankers draft written from a bank in dublin into my account last friday- it wasnt showing as in my account so i contacted the bank who put me from one person to another
first fob off: must be tracing it!
2nd: must be in the misc files as the bank didnt recognise a number on the cash in slip
3rd: AND IM FUMING.... it will take 8weeks to clear???????? !!!!!!...... i am on here now because this cannot be true.
any imput greatly appreciated0 -
I work in a bank for the moment, just waiting to hear if i still have a job!! It takes the same length of time to clear as a cheque so approx 6 working days- this is for security reasons and fraud purposes.:eek:0

From my days of working in a bank many years ago. The only cheques or bankers drafts that cleared in a day were drawn on the main clearing house branches of the major banks. All had xx -00-00 sort codes.
Why your buyers are depositing funds with a bankers draft in this world of electronic banking suggests they are trying to stall the transaction for a few days!0 -

Depends what bank the draft was drawn on, as to how long it will take to clear.0
