Aero Wiper Blade Refilling

My Focus MK2's passenger-side wiper was knackered, and I had an 18" standard blade lying around gathering dust (the Focus's wiper is 17" so easy enough to cut to size). So I decided to experiment with changing the blade over before I resorted to spending £30 on a new set.

To my surprise, it has worked perfectly. The rubber is a perfect fit, looks almost identical (slightly thicker rubber but it doesn't seem to affect the running) and the "new" blade does its job a lot better than the old streaky one did.

However, I have heard it said that this isn't supposed to work because the aero rubber is special in some way (no-one seems to specify what that special something is though).

Is this OK or am I going to come a cropper? As I say the dimensions were as near as makes no difference the same and the wiper does work....

The actual arm the blade fits into is a better design on the aero. As for the rubber i doubt it makes much
difference. Providing it fits and is not loose with no risk of it coming out.

Cheers, that's what I thought but you know what it's like with people telling you this and that.

The way I see it, if the blade is doing its job and it fits I'm not sure where the problem is, but then I am not an expert in wiper blade engineering.

I've kept the old rubber for the time being just in case it starts juddering badly or something -- although to be fair the manufacturer of the blade the rubber came from has been reasonable to date so there's no particular reason I can think of for it going wrong.

I wouldnt worry about it juddering if something did go wrong it would be the engine & gearbox dropping out. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

At least you would know the reason why though. Cheap wiper blades. :D

Nothing is impossible until i have tried and failed to do it myself. Even then i will have my doubts. ;)
