With respect, how much our holidays cost is nothing to do with you.We are retired and in our seventies and have worked hard for them.

We have always used a Nationwide Flex card for cash withdrawals until the majority spoiled it for the minority, so are comparing costs !

Why don't you open N&P account? :money: >>>>

A number of people have mentioned using a direct debit to automatically pay off their statement each month, whilst also making manual payments to minimise cash withdrawal charges. Is it possible that this might cause the account to go in to credit, which I don't think is allowed. For example...

    20 March
    Balance -£100
    Statement issued
£100 automated direct debit transfer arranged for 20 April

    05 April
    Balance -£200
    £100 Cash withdrawal

    10 April
    Balance £0
    £200 manual payment

    20 April
    Balance +£100
£100 direct debit automated transfer from 20 March

Basically, the problem comes from the fact that payments are made according to the balance at the previous month's statement. At least this is how my automated direct debit system works. Have I got this correct? If so, would the work around be to cancel the automated direct debit transfer when making the manual payment? Would this need to be done over the telephone?

It would be incredibly annoying to be in this situation whilst abroad!

    Thanks!
