renting in London-can you outsmart estate agent?

Hi
Here is my situation. I live in a houseshare in south of London(zone 4). I m fed up with sharing and looking for a studio or 1bed appartment for myself.Still renting in the south of London.
As per my contract, I have 1month notice to give my landlord. However I don't want to give it yet and be rushed in looking for studio and, just take one because the notice (I gave is getting close and closer)
I'll have to add that with my job , it s not 9 to 5pm. I t more like a 8 to 6pm. This make is practically impossible to view studio during the week, baring in mind my 45 minutes commute .

Anyway I have started looking for studio . I m getting daily email alerts from gumtree, rightmove and primelocation. I phoned an estate agent to arrnage a viewing for a studio that was still available. He refused to let me view the property because of my 1monts notice. He said if your not looking to move in 2weeks time, then the landlord is not interested!
If I m looking for a property to move in by end of April, I should not contact him!2weeks is that not a bit short?!
So my questions to you is
should I not tell the truth when asked by estate agen when I would like to move?
Is there any other way , for me to view property, compare before making an "offer"
What is your general experience with estate agent in London
Could you recommend one in south London?

Thank you:)

Probably won't help,if it's still being advertised, I'd ring in a month's time, ask is it still available, and if so, say you probably should have let me view last month then.
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!

Sounds like you want to part exchange your old car and keep your old car at the same time? what you need to do is tell him you are ready to leave, find a place and sign for it.

You may have two premises for a month. No one is going to hold a room open a month for you and there is a chance you will find something better or change your mind. All that the landlord will get is a loss of 1+ month and agro.

properties still move fast in london.

    Hi
    I appreciate your comments.
I understand that properties move fast in London. However I still think that estate agent should not refuse to arrange a viewing for a
possible customer/tenant. I could have view the studio and change my mind about the moving end of April. On the other hand, it's not because I view a studio that I would go on and take it.
Well, I guess I will just have to lie about my move in date ...find someting that I can afford and sign for it.
