Decorating a swiss roll to make a chocolate log

Oooh i love chocolate yule logs, they are my speciality - even make the swiss roll (it doesn't matter if it cracks/crumbles when u are going to cover it in buttercream :rotfl: )
One suggestion for ppl making them at home (though not for the OP as it would be rather expensive for that kind of scale) would be to buy lots of cadburys flakes and stick them into the buttercream - it looks REALLY log-like.
It does work out to be fairly pricey though (don't think they make tesco value flakesor any other brand than cadburys come to think of it), but it's sooooooo tasty. Plus if there are any left over flakes, then they HAVE to be eaten.
EDIT: You should cut the flakes length ways to make them into narrower sections befor sticking them on. Don't think the buttercream would support the weight of whole flakes!!0 -
This has made me go all nostalgic! My Mum used to make a Yule Log every year. She bought a swiss roll and did the choccolate buttercream and fork thing. She then dusted over the icing sugar and added a sprig of holly. We used to have this hideous robin from the Christmas tree that was all bald and wonky and we'd beg to be allowed to "perch" the robin on it LOL I think she was always worried it ruined the effect !!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)
