you got anyone nearby that would lend you some land just for growing?? We do straws, rasps, goodberrys and tayberrys and have supplies coming out our ears. You can force rhubabrb for earlier in the season, Alpine strawbs i have harvested come late september before and things like carrots can be stored in cool dry areas for months. Always freecycle for a secondary freezer if you have the room or garage space ;)

Grow beetroot that isn't untidy and the leaves are pretty. Courgette also very pretty flowers

Yes they are unfortunately all the same. I am the founder of a guinea pig rescue and I have asked everywhere for fruit and veg which is going to be thrown. I have even offered to sign an agreement that it isnt for human consumption and also offered to pay a small amount for it (much less than it normally costs us!) but none will allow us to have any.
We tried farm shops too but they feed it to their own farm animals so understandbly they wont allow it either.

It is so very annoying when you see them throw it in the bin and yet we have 50+ guinea pigs which would truly enjoy eating it!!

Let me know please if you do have any success with anywhere
    Thank you

It's worth asking indepedant greengrocers/fruit & veg sellers.

My granddad gets stale bread & cakes from his local bakery to feed birds with.....he's known as the bird man in there :rotfl:

If you have a market near you might be worth asking? They always seem to have boxes of slightly bruised bananas and leaves from cabbages and lettuces that have come off the outside that always get chucked at the end, or slightly imperfect fruit that you could probably chop the bad bit from and salvage the rest? Plus I know that some people will ask on market stalls and greengrocers to get some 'greens' and carrot tops for bunnies and guinea pigs for free too so could be worth an ask :) I also agree with finding out roughly what time the supermarkets do their final reductions on fruit and veg and try to get in then as you can often pick stuff up for next to nothing. You could also try asking on Freecycle or Freegle if anyone has an allotment and normally puts leaves and trimmings on the compost heap if you could come and collect them instead?
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important
