Car Insurance hike

Hi all
Yes, I am a woman, 40 yrs, 20yrs NCB, no points, never claimed......
I was expecting an increase, but my insurance went up from £391 to £720, this is almost double! I have tried other quoted, but they all give me very inflated prices of more than £100
I was expecting an increase of about 20% only.
I know it all has to with a EU ruling, but my OH got his renewal too, and it is lower than mine! It used to be a higher quote than me; he uses his car daily unlike me and had an accident last year....
Where is the logic in here?:huh:

If you think it's bad now, it'll be even worst after Dec 2012 when the ruling comes into effect.
Do you mean other quotes are more than £820?0 -
You were expecting an increase of about 20% and it increased by about 25% ? So not a million miles off what you expected0

Ring your insurers and check there hasn't been a mistake.
Did you change insurer at last renewal - if so you may have been given an incentive to attract you as a customer which disappears after year 1.
Is it the same insurer as your husband.
Insurers may have reassessed the group of your car - ask them.
Contact a local broker - not Swintons who have a poor reputation - and ask them to get you a quote.
No good in getting cross until you have understood the reason for the increase.0 -
It's 84% for the renewal, 25% after shopping around (491/391).I have tried other quoted, but they all give me very inflated prices of more than £100
This assumes they mean other quotes were £100 more than £391 but what they have written is not really clear.
Given that insurance prices were up about 30% in 2010 then this doesn't seem too far off.
Could try adding a more mature driver but I'm not sure what difference that would make at 40 (but worth a try).Ring your insurers and check there hasn't been a mistake.
Bear in mind car insurance went up about 30% in 2010 (due to many reasons - ambulance chasers, snow etc.)
So a 25% increase does not look out of order.
Young people or higher risks are seeing higher increases due to cherry picking by insurers.
The OPs increases is less that the general increase.
If they have got other quotes then they can't all the wrong.
I don't like it either, none of us do, but we have to accept that there has been a big increase.0 -
Hi all,
Thanks for your replies
I meant that all other quotes I got are more than £1000 (not £100, typo mistake sorry!)).
So it is a huge increase. A friend of mine who is 46, was only given a £20 increase this week for her renewal (same area, same job and we used to have similar policies).
Yes I changed insurers last year and they gave me a good rate, but More Than were not the only ones with an attractive offer last year.
I am still looking around and will contact a local broker and MoreThan later next week.No toiletries spend in 2011.

I don't think many have a good name on here. I've used them ,it's well worth a quote, they also have £40 cashback at the moment. It's 84% for the renewal, 25% after shopping around (491/391).

Wrong assumption, 84% seems to be the best, and it seems a bit above the general increase.0
