  • Well one place I phoned about was a one bed flat for £580/month including Council Tax but bills on top.

The other was a room in a three bed flat and that was £120/week inc Council Tax + electric. I was hoping to maybe get a bedsit for around £250-300/month but this does not look likely.

Don't really want to say what area I live in but I did not expect it to be that bad. Looks like staying at home (which thankfully I am not having to pay the above amounts for) it is going to be with 2 and a half hours spent commuting each day :(

The costs I was giving are for the West End in Glasgow, lot of stuff to rent there as there is a large student population. 2 friends of my daughter got a nice 2 bed + livingroom flat for £550. But they were very lucky, usually it would be about £600. Of course as students they do not pay any council tax.
2 bed flats are now the most common as they do not require an HMO licence. Do you know anyone you could share with? A 1 bed will work out expensive for you.
The room in the 3 bed sounds really expensive. For £300 you should get a room and use of lounge, kitchen etc in a 2 bed, but that will be plus all bills. My daughter rents out her other bedroom and charges £290 this year.
You will save a fair bit by not having to travel so far, but nothing is as cheap as staying at home!
