I usually only post messages on consumer forums after a bad customer service experience, but praise where praise is due...

I just phoned eon to ask about switching to a different tariff and almost fell off my chair when someone answered the phone within just a few seconds without me having to navigate the usual automated menu system!

Unlike my recent nightmare experience with Santander, the eon advisor spoke good english and answered my question immediately.

Have to agree with you. Phoned them the other day as my deal was coming to an end to see if I could get any better deal than was showing on the website, so it was no longer the best one for me.

He actually agreed that at the moment British Gas had the best deal for my area, and didn't attempt to argue against it. very polite.

However, they only offer a discount from their standard tariff, which they could increase, then I'd face a £60 penalty to get out of it. Just phoned British Gas to confirm that was the case, and got such an abrupt non-apologetic response that I think I'm happy to go for a new deal with e.on. Penalty for moving from them will only be £30.
