Canadian National needs account!

I need an account to pay wages into from a part-time job I have, which is all legitimate as I have a working visa and pay tax on this.

I tried HSBC to get a "passport" account, but they have been very annoying. Can anyone else help? Thanks

My mum has been having similar problems trying to open a business account. She's American yet she's lived and worked here for over 40 years. I don't think banks make it easy for "foreigners" no matter how legitimate they are.

If you want to open a Passport account, its probably better to apply online than in a branch as I don't think most staff are that familar with them.

    Otherwise, have you considered:

    a) opening a savings account instead or
    b) opening an account with an Canadian bank with a branch in the UK (normally London)

  • Good Luck is all I can say  .
My American BIL was in the UK on a film company work contract for 6 months and he desperately tried to open a bank account here so that he didn't have to have his pay put into his US a/c and with his only access to it being through an ATM ( with a big fee generated each time too).

No bank that he tried would co-operate even with all sorts of paperwork available to prove his status. Their only helpful suggestion was that he open an account with a US branch of a bank that also operates in Europe and then it could work that way. He gave up in the end.

It would probably work the same way for you (but with a Canadian branch lol ;) )
