Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to create a money saving calendar on behalf of the citizens advice bureau and was hoping you could use your vast knowledge to help me out with some money saving tips for each calendar month ie for January we might have picking up next years Christmas gifts in the sales.
Pleae note - the calendar will be aimed at people who are financially excluded in society so tips on how to get a good deal on your new landrover probably won't be of much use!
Cheers
Nick

There must be a stack of tips about keeping warm in winter in the thread on here about 'not using the central heating' like placing foil behind the radiators. Maybe the telephone number for the grants to help with insulating the home could be included.
For a summer how about suggesting contacting the local council for details of free activites and festivals happening where you live....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

what about contributing every week, even just a pound or two, to one of the supermarket saving stamps schemes to help towards xmas ?0

Tip number one:-
Go to your local library and log on here:-
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=33
There are thousands of tips here on Old Style and plenty more money saving tips on the other boards too.
Take a look here, for example:-

My top tip... erm... Spring. Buy just one tomato plant if you don't have much room or no garden at all and grow it in a bucket. An easy and rewarding start to growing your own.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. April/May if in social housing & on HB.
Ensure HB has been increased for rent increase. Claim & arrears are the responsibility of the tenant but HB increase is often missed when local authorities received thousands of increases at once. It may be too late for a backdate by the time you know it hasnt been paid.....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0 -
Also claims for cold weather payment (is this automatic?) and bus tokens/passes.
Not sure when they are, sorry.....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0 -
i was in this dilema this year.....as my oldest was starting comp.. school... and the only place i could buy the school uniform was from the school and it would have worked out sooooo expensive..... so i managed to buy some from a local charity shop.....
so i would suggest start looking in charity shops from june for school uniforms.....(peeps getting rid of school uniform when they leave school..........august...mayhem...as everyone is looking for uniforms......)
but i think the best suggestion was made by squeaky.....
promote the mse site........
good luck...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Hi
I would put on EVERY month "Have you informed the DWP and/or Local Authority, Inland Revenue about any changes in your circumstances this month?"
And maybe a money saving recipe to try each week (see the recipe thread).
Also, in January, suggest saving a little each month towards next Christmas.
Maybe a box to write how much their debt has reduced since the last month (a motivational thing)0 -
Hi
I can strongly recommend adding freecycle.org. Fantastic. Enables people to reduce the landfills by giving away anything unwanted. This could be anything from a washing machine to a box of unwanted books.
