wooden curtain poles - are they moneysaving as the cold goes up the gap

I am trying to insulate my house for the winter and one of the things I notice is that all of my lovely curtain poles are not very good. There are draughts up the gap at the top.
How is everyone else dealing with this. I am loath to go back to the old fashioned plastic rails but they seem the best ones to ensure that this gap is closed.
Anyone?

Hello MrsCrafty. I have thermal blackout blinds in my windows so I don't rely on thermal linings alone. The best place for this kind of advice might be the Preparing for Winter threads on the Old Style Moneysaving boards.0
