You Have A Parcel Waiting

Hi this is my first thread, sorry if it sucks.

I saw a notice yesterday saying that there is a company going round, posting card thru the door sayingthat they have tried to deliver a parcel but you were out, if you phone this number then they will arrange a deliver time.

The call costs £15

I think the company was PDa or something. Im not sure if it will say the cost somewhere on the card, I would imagine it would have to?

hope this maybe helps someone.

Does anyone no how companys can get away with this?
 dont know what im doing!!!

    Here we go yet again!!

This company was closed down last year and the 0901 number quoted on the notice has been disconnected. Also you cannot be charged £15 just by ringing the number. Maximum charges for a premium line is £1.50 a minute. So you have to be on the line for 10 minutes to rack up that charge.

To be fair to the poster, this urban myth is being circulated by many people who should know better. There is a copy of the this "warning" on the counter of our local Royal Mail sorting office, and our local paper printed the same warning passed on by Nottinghamshire police.

I don't think some carriers help matters.

On thursday last week I was shocked to receive a note through the door from Royal Mail. Said that the package that's been ordered was too large or fragile for them to deliver and that if I wanted it I had to go to the post office and pick it up.

If I wasn't expecting something I'd have thought this was a scam.

Not really a potential scam is it? You wasn't asked to ring a premium number and all they asked you to do is go to the post office.

If it was too large or fragile to deliver...how did they deliver it to the post office?

That's where it came from in the first place , the sorting office! They were just asking you to collect the parcel which was too large to get through your door. This happens all the time. It's standard Royal Mail procedure.

You have to come out of a particular thread and then go to the actual board you want to post on (for instance this board is the "warnings and Rip-off board"). You then should see the "start a new thread" button.

Nono, Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear there.

The postman delivered a slip saying that they had an item that was too large or fragile to be delivered. He delivered it by hand, he didn't have the item with him, he didn't try to deliver it.

Don't get me started too much on this - I'm kinda angry about the whole "well what are we paying you for" thing.

My point was though: no. I wasn't asked to call a premium rate number, but if he gave me the slip and it said "pickup from your sorting office or call here with any queries" you'd better believe that I'd have been calling to query why they weren't bothering to do their job. I'd probably have noticed it was premium rate in time, but it's easy to see how someone might not.

Sorry, I'll shut up now :)
