Powergen Tesco Clubcard points

I'm looking to change gas and electricity supplier (both with British Gas) and British Gas Click is coming in cheapest, but if you need to phone them, it is a premium rate phone number and we all know how long you can be on hold !!

The projected saving with them is £347, but Powergen are in the top ones with a smaller saving of £317, but they are offering 1 Tesco clubcard point for every £1 spent. It's not clear whether this is an ongoing offer while you are with them, or just a one off. I have no idea how much a Tesco Clubcard point is worth but with an annual spend of approx £1600, would that make a bigger saving in the long run ?

  • Well my Powergen account is linked my Tesco clubcard and it is not a one off you get them all the time. I have a Tesco credit card as well and get points for every pound I spend anywhere not just Tesco. I think it is worth it.
  • Thanks for that. Do you know what the value is of a Tesco Clubcard point ? If i get one points for every £1 and my spend is approximately £1600, then I will get 1600 points, but I don't know whether that will be worth more than the £30 I would save with British Gas.

For Every 100 points you get a pound.

Thing to bear in mind is that powergen have Energyonline Winter saver at the moment which is 16% off.

And Its freephone should you need to call them. Instead of paying british gas to be on hold.
  • If they have the Winter saver on offer at the moment, does that mean the prices will go up by 16% after Winter ?

No it runs until January 2008. If your on energyonline when the winter saver expires you will just go onto normal energyonline which is the same cost as domestic gas and electricity but with an 11% discount.

Oh and the Tesco thing with powergen has been going for over a year now and doesn't run for a limited time :)
  • You can also get £35 (for Dual Fuel) cashback via Quidco or Topcashback (as long as you have selected a UK method of payment from quidco/topcashback ie no Paypal on this one)
  • Brilliant, the £35 cashback with Quidco makes up the difference (and a bit more), and I will get something like £16 worth of Tesco points a year, and as Martin keeps telling us - I will NEVER spend them in Tesco ;)

  • I do spend my points in Tesco because I would never use the alternatives such as days out to various theme parks, or cheaper cross channel ferry prices, or hotel reductions. But the odd £10 off my shopping bill is welcome!
  • I heard Martin say that they are worth 4 times as much in B & Q, so that's going to come in useful.
