Miele and currys!!!!

Hi all i purchased a fancy washing machine from currys yesterday which in store had a 99 month waranty( i have a copy of the POS/ product info).

Got it home and it had a fault called Miele and they said the product had 12 months only waranty!

what do you think i should do, aside from the fault?

Where do i stand re warranty? Miele won't honour it, Currys made the offer.

Please help.

  • Are you sure you are not confusing the manufacturer's warrantly with an additional warranty offered by Currys?

Did you actually query the 99 months (8 1/4 years!) before you bought it - it sounds to me like it may just have been a holding amount on a POS template - i.e. they type 12, 24 etc over it and someone forgot. Clearly if its Curry's error then Miele won't be bound by it and its up to Curry's to sort it out.

If you only bought it yesterday just send it back! I wouldn't accept a new machine which had a fault within a day! Trouble is they'd probably give you your money back rather than keep this millstone of an 8 year warranty going!

  • THANKS FOR THE SWIFT RESPONSE

no confusion over currys extended warranty, Most miele machines come with 10 years due to various promotions etc running,
youre right i could just take it back i suppose and get a cheaper machine with a guaranteed 10 years warranty, just wondered if anyone knew what the legal position is?

Your contract is with Currys (poor you, but then no one to blame but yourself) and therefore it would be between you and them. If they then say there is an error in the info given to them by the manufacturer then that is a separate issue and nothing to do with you.

If it has a 12 month warranty with Miele then for the fiorst 12 months it's their concern, i don't know if i'm missing something in what your saying and correct me if i am, but it's standard practice to have a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer and an extended warranty from the seller. If something goes wrong in the 1st year you send it back to the manufacturer, after that you take it to the store. In your position though you should just be taking it back to Currys as it's not a fault that has developed, they've sold you a defective product and you should be able to have it exchanged for one that isn't defective.

On the warranty thing what you need to understand as that you actually have 2 warranties, one with Miele and one with Currys which has nothing to do with Miele, it's standard practice, for example my laptop had a manufacturers warranty for the 1st year and an extended 3 year warranty from the shop (toys r us lol) Backlight died after 6 months, contacted manufacturer and got it replaced...a year later same thing happened again, this time it wasn't the manufacturers concern at all and was toys r us' It was now under their warranty and they got it repaired(although it's more common for them to replace things under store warranties)

Why would you want to swap it for a cheaper machine? I have 2 miele products and both are fantastic - my mother has had one of their vacuum cleaners for about 15 years and it's still going strong.

You haven't said what the problem is but if I were you I would either have a refund and buy the miele machine from another place or have an exchange.

As for the guarantee I'm not aware that miele have a 10 year guarantee, I believe they have at least a 10 year design life though.
  • John Lewis are currently doing a free 10 year guarantee promo, in store and online. Send it back to Currys and buy there! Don't forget the money off offers on the vouchers board.
