The real bargain in that bunch was the Lichfield Yana at £29.99. Superb weekend/festival tent, goes up in seconds.

(And never mind the Outwells or Vangos, go canvas and get a Hypercamp Pyramid!)

Sorry Op- not meaning to rain on your parade, but I have to add a word of caution. Pro Action tents are the only brand I ever jump up & down & warn new campers not to buy.

I would say the same about any of the low priced tents sold by argos, as well as ANY tents sold by supermarkets etc.

You get what you pay for, if you are after a truly decent tent that will actually last go for a well known, good quality brand, I've always found outwell tents to be the best quality and have had a small 2 man vango tent which has lasted me years with no problems.

I think tents should tell you how long it would take an inexperienced 5' person to put them up alone, in the pouring rain, in misty/murky conditions, with a good wind blowing up a gale.

Again, I hate to put a downer on your post but it is a false economy to buy this sort of tent and I speak from experience. I know they seem expensive but you would be better off spending your money on an Outwell. You can pick them up on ebay and whilst they are used you get a far better tent for your money. I have just bought an Outwell Bear Lake 6 at half the money they cost new and it will last for years whereas this type in this price bracket new will probably only last you one trip.

I bought a Pro Action tent 3 years ago and have mixed feelings about it. I had to return it after the first use because the zip was well dodgy. On the other hand, that first time I used it, high winds were forecast. I made sure the tent was well secured and it survived a mini tornado at a festival (even the main stage got blown away).

We saw loads of tents that had been damaged but ours was intact. The zip issue happened through what I would call normal use but Argos replaced the whole tent without an issue. We were extra careful with the zip on the replacement tent and it managed to survive another festival. If you are careful, these tents are well worth the money you pay for them IMO

I have a Vango Delta 4 man for £34.99 about 6 years ago and it's still going strong - so thumbs up for Vango

My Brother-in-law bought a 2 man Tesco jobbie for festival for £19.99 - it leaked all weekend and he slept in someone else's tent (less said the better). He left it there, so £20 up in smoke.

Cheap tents are a false economy as many have said. And if you need a two man, buy a three/four man unless you're Nicole Richie and Kate Moss. Size is everything.

If giving advice to a new company I would always say stick with the main tent brands Vango, outwell, Gelert, Coleman. GENERALLY they have the better qualifty, more reliable tents. Its worth spending that extra money on this as a bad tent will RUIN your break where as cheap aribeds, sleeping bags etc may not make that much different during a weekend break in summer.
  • I personally love the Coleman tents, i have several of them some from last years premium range and some that are older and they are great tents, very light and airy which is brilliant love lots of little features they have plus, matching carpets, canopys, windbreaks etc
My favorite thing about them is i don't own one that takes me longer than 20 minutes to put up or take down and none are so heavy i can't move them by myself (i'm female 5 foot2" 34 years old and have a herniated disc in my back).I like Outwells but most i like are a bit heavy for me.
Never had any problems with any of them! No leaking, breaking, collapsing, getting blown away, torn, even in really bad weathers when those around me have been having a nightmare, i've seen halfords family packs up tree's, gelert pop ups flying round in a tornado at the Download festival in "09, tesco vis a vis often lands up in a bin, even my father in laws expensive royal bordeaux 6 tore itself to bits and got its metal poles mangled in very high winds in Cornwall, I family camp and festival camp from begining of march through too end of october every year.
I love camping, but get the best you can afford for your money, airbeds, sleeping bags etc,the tent being the most important thing because it has too look after you, your family, and your things.

Also think practically, can you put it up take it down? does it have enough room? size of erected tent? some will also double pitch charge you if its over 20 feet in any direction, weight of tent? can you lift / move it? a trolley or wagon be a handy option for heavier bulkier tents? height of tent? (stoopings never fun with a bad back neithers crawling round the floor) size of tent in bag? can it fit in backseat of car, boot of car or would you require a trailer etc
