This site is good for tent reviews:

  • Sorry Op- not meaning to rain on your parade, but I have to add a word of caution. Pro Action tents are the only brand I ever jump up & down & warn new campers not to buy.

Do you mind me asking why?

It is worth having a look at some of the reviews on UKcampsite:

    http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Pro-Action/Argos-Canberra-12/381

Obviously, some people have got on OK with it. However, there are lots of reports on there about problems with severe leaking in the rain, broken zips, lengthy time to pitch (someone reported 3 hours!), poor stability in winds and broken poles.

Pro-action brand on the whole is not well reviewed and has a history of very poor performance in rain and general poor build quality.

I suppose it depends what you are after. You do need to be prepared for the likelihood of leaks and poor durability with this brand. The tent may potentially make one or two holidays only and in the long run will not be as cost effective as spending a little more on a better quality tent. Plus, leaks and broken poles in the middle of the night do not make for a happy holiday believe me!!

For anyone planning on buying a tent for the first time, or planning on a longer camping trip with the family I really would recommend checking out ukcampsite forums and tent reviews where there is a wealth of information.

If you have a limited budget it would be worth checking out Ebay for second hand tents also. You can pick up some bargains (always advisable to ask to see them erected on collection too).

Yup - have to say outwell are fabulous tents. Kampa also another quality make.

Bluecow got there first. Put it this way, I've been first at site for a "rally" of friends before now, and ended up helping put up in excess of 10 tents in a stint. You can tell a pro action just from the feel. They're paper thin, the HH isn't up to much and they break easily.

Outwells are the dogs doodahs (although I have my eye on a Kampa Frinton- it appears to be a tent that thinks of everything) but if you're budget conscious, Gelert are a really good brand for the money.
