Frugal Living Challenge 2011 - part 2

Hi All - been busy the past few days so lots of posts to catch up on. Not managed any NSD's
but my potatoes have poked their heads through & the salad leaves & Cos lettuce are just through too. Did buy a couple of Tumbling Tom plants for a couple of hanging baskets that were spare so should have lots of tomatoes this year (fingers crossed)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
The Borrowers had it!
If I was being kind of mysterious I'd blame the poltergeist but DH has kind of remembered shoving things out of the way when he wanted some floor space. Still doesn't explain how I moved the sofa twice and still didn't find it though! Many thanks for all the moral support I've received the past few weeks.

Good evening to all,
slowlyfading - it sounds like you've had a magical day.
silvasava - good to hear that your veggies have come through. I bet that feels satisfying.
And congratulations to your puddlegum, what a relief!! I've been worried about that!
As for me, Plan to plant potatoes etc, paint everything wooden in garden and to make Lady Lesley's pasta (without the nettles) for tea tomorrow. Can't wait. Off to bed now so it'll come quicker!!!
Take care. x0 -

Not a lot to report from me.....
The first chap I met has gone very quiet on me (after I phoned him when he was having tea with a female friend prior to going to a pub quiz night - and I didn't know he was out or with someone else, so the call wasn't planned to cause trouble or check-up on him)
I'm not going meet the one I've not yet met with - his shift pattern just doesn't seem to fall in with my set hours so that we can manage a meet in a public place in daylight hours. But he beat me to the suggestion it was proving too problematic and possibly time to call it a day in trying to sort something out.... so no hard feelings either side, and I'm not upset about it.
But I'm still in daily contact with the one I went bowling with, and he was impressed this morning when I said I'd spent last night batch cooking for the freezer
I managed to pick up 2x500g lean minced steak in Whoopsies on Monday night - 59p each instead of £2.87 !! Cooked the lot up with onions (and oats for the very first time - wasn't sure how much to add to 1kg of mince but definitely haven't over-done it, so may try adding more next time), then split into 3 equal portions. The first lot made up 7 portions of bolognese sauce (one of which I had for a late tea, and very yummy it was), and I need to finish off making chille and cottage pies with the 2 other portions this morning. Also picked up some (special offer) braising steak to make into several portions of casserole/stew, and some Whoopsied pork and tomato sausages to make into (possibly 8) portions of sausage and bean casserole. This all needed doing, as I don't seem to have any of these left in my freezers - and whilst I still have loads of chicken and fish, I really don't want those every night of the week......Cheryl0 -
Springbridge was brilliant, a bit colder than I anticipated but a great day out. £7.95 for admission, half a booklet (shared cost with friend) and bird feed. I went in free as a carer which helped a lot! Petrol £5, no other costs. We had a fantastic picnic and walked miles and miles!0

Well so far so frugal recently...not spent a penny on petrol as car been in garage getting sorted since Friday...Under warranty so getting sorted for free + nearly a whole tank of petrol in it*well there was* when i dropped it off. Should be sorted and ready for picking up tomorrow night. I am off Friday and Monday aswel as the weekend so il have to give it a really good clean. Friday will be spent getting it immaculate and give it a new car feel...Anyone got any advice for cleaning inside? Drivers seat is a bit dusty ? Will be getting an all in one seat cover as the current 3 piece set doesnt stop dust getting through off my clothes!
So thats at least Friday sorted and shouldnt cost more than £20.....
Got a bit of money coming through just now so looking at getting a van in August and rid of car in September...will be saving me £240 a month(unless i get van on finance which even then will be under £150 a month. Need to search about for a good deal and find insurance aswel.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

evening all, i'm just going to have a quick catch up before superscrimpers... which i will watch live (woop! Digital now works! on our 15yr old TV and 4yr old set top box, both donated and without an upgraded aerial! i was right to have faith and not spend the money in advance despite what all the authorities said!:j) whilst eating a 75p (was 3.00) woospied 'steam fresh' chicken pot meal from Mr M... my fiance is away at a conference so i'm living in luxury and not cooking! :rotfl:
~ actually Mr M was brilliant last night ( i dont usually go on a tues), i spent around £10 and got some veg and woopsied bread rolls and english muffins AND a whole corn fed chicken (2.00), 2 tubs of cooked chicken bits (35p each, were £2something), 3 packs of spicy chicken breast things (65p were a lot more), a pack of chicken breasts woopsied too. :j so last month we ate woopsied pork, this month it will be woopsied chicken!:money:
oh, and i've a job interview tomorow. a redeployment position as i'm facing the Big R. i'm very nervous as i need to keep employed.. but it's less hoursbut it sounds like a good job
