no windows default sound

in Techie Stuff
my default windows sounds are missing, no icon in taskbar even thou it's ticked in control panel audio settings my sounds are in the media folder when selecting sounds to test it just does not highlight to test, i can can play anything and have sound in any video player installed on my pc like winamp and vlc, in internet explorer when i'm at youtube i can watch but not hear sounds.
what i have done so fare:
reinstall my drivers and uninstalled in windows and safe mode,
check that bios was ok,
SFC /SCANNOW
dxdiag ran it and alls ok,
deleted any codecs that installed.
CHKDSK
system restore is corrupted as i thought of trying going back but not dates will work.restore.
whet to kellys-korner and followed advice and installed all tweaks.
please help.

Have you loaded the drivers for the sound card again? Nee to go to the sound card (or, for onboard sound, the motherboard) manufacturers web site and download the latest version.
Also check that "sound, video and game controllers" are present and enabled in Device Manager.
If it's onboard sound it may be worth deleting them and then reboot. Should find the Sound Card and load drivers as it reboots. If it's a seperate card delete the drivers and then move it to a different slot before rebooting.0 -
