Free Weekend Digger Hire!

Just thought I'd share this with you,
Last Friday I hired someone to dig a load of trenches and a soakaway in my driveway and courtyard. They in turn hired a mini digger to do the work from a hire company. I basically paid for a days work, and although I got my moneys worth I could have done with more time to remove some of the soil etc from the site.
The digger was meant to be picked up the following day. I was asked if I could hold the key for it and wait in for the Hire Firm to pick it up.
On Saturday I phoned the hire company to ask what time they would be around to pick it up. They were very polite and informed me that they would do their best to pick it up as soon as possible, but they were struggling because of people needing dehumidifiers and pumps etc urgently.
I suggested that they may like to leave it with me for the weekend and allow me free use of it until Monday. "Sounds good to me" came the reply from the manager!
So I moved off site another 4 or 5 tonnes of soil that I won't need, as much of it is being replaced with chippings and stone for the soakaway and drainage, which means that I now have large areas of my courtyard back that I didn't have before!
Lesson here is - "Consider how you can turn an inconvenience into an advantage."
