Signed off with pregnancy illness during staffing review, how does this effect me??

Hi, I am currently a teacher, 24 weeks pregnant and my school is going through a staffing review.
Basically I am having a lot of medical problems with the pregnancy and the extra stress of this process is making me extremely ill. After a very difficult meeting earlier this week I passed out in the staff car park. My blood pressure was off the charts, thankfully baby was fine and I was released from hospital a few hours later but this situation is not going away.
So, My consultant has recommended that I need to stay off work for at least 6 weeks.
I have never had any time like this off in the past 5 years of my employment and I know that baby has to come first etc. I have explained the situation to my Doctor and she basically said that if I continue to put my body through this at this time then I am going to leave myself very much at risk of getting complications such as pre eclampsia and premature labour, as she pointed out, if you are physically passing out and being sick with stress then it is your bodies way of telling you that you need some time off.

So, my question is, if I am off sick for the next 6 weeks I will miss the last part of the consultation process, I will miss the "letters of expression out to staff meeting" and will not be in school when the letters of expression need to be submitted. I would still be off when the interviews for jobs are.
So what would happen? If my doctor is telling me that I need to step away from the situation what am I supposed to do? do I still have to do all the letters of expression and attend interviews etc or what would happen??
The redundancies themselves will be implemented whilst I am on maternity leave, I will be fighting for one of 5 jobs with about 8 colleagues, so what will happen if I go off sick? Will I still have to go through this whole process or will they just look back at my record and make a judgement based on that??

I would be so greatful if someone can give me some advice, this is supposed to be me relaxing and I just can't with so many questions that I just don't know the answers to!!!

  • You've been given some advice in the other thread you started. I would imagine as you are off sick you'll be treated the same as if you've started your maternity leave. I hope you feel better soon. I would take the doctors advice and step back from this at the moment. Your employers can't do anything illegal, or if they do it's challengable at a later point. If you are going to be made redundant and it is within the law then you are just going to expend energy on something you can't change. Take care.
