Just send all the post back marked "No longer at this address - return to sender".

The organsiations in question will eventually get the message.

Meanwhile it does you no harm. Your credit record is unaffected (its individuals not addresses that have credit files), so just stop worrying.

In fact it's probably easier for you to steal THEIR identity. Not that you would want to do that of course.

Yep, this is fairly effective, particularly with banks

If she is hiring cars using your address then her driving licence must still show your address as they would want to see that.

You cannot put an address outside of the UK on a UK driving licence if you live permanently outside the UK. You have to switch to the driving licence system of the country you have moved to.

Not telling the DVLA your address has changed is an offence. However, it's difficult to force somebody to change the physical licence they hold as whilst it can be flagged on the system as needing updating, companies accepting it as proof of identity don't necessarily check against the live system. If it's a photo driving licence it will expire though and require a new photograph. If it's flagged in the system that the address must be updated you'd hope it wouldn't be renewed.

There are a number of local DVLA offices and it might be worth visiting the one nearest to you to ask for advice: http://www.comparenumberplates.co.uk/dvla/dvla-office-address-map/

Alternatively you can write to them, call them (expensive) or email them via this page: http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/contactus/drivers_enquiries.aspx

If you have any recent car hire documents then you can use these to show the information is still being used. Do you know the correct address in Greece?

This is only partially true (it is all true for people resident outside of the EU) as there is no obligation to exchange your UK licence when living in another EU country - your UK licence remains completely valid until it expires. However, as you state the DVLA does not allow non UK addresses so the address on the licence becomes useless. However, sometimes hire car companies insist on using it.

Therefore, if all the post relates to driving type matters then this is probably what is happening. For the bank related post just return to sender.

This "problem" occurs because of shortcomings in the DVLA system. I am aware that other EU countries avoid this problem by simply not having an address on driving licences.

(As an aside there is an advantage to holding an EU licence of another EU country than the one you are resident in. This is that your resident country can not revoke your licence - they can only ban you from driving within that country - leaving you with a valid licence you can use in any other country in the world.)

Hiya, i've contacted the DVLA, by e-mail, hopefully they'll get back to me pretty soon. I contacted the Citizens advice bureaux, to get told, technically if she's not running up any debts with the hire car companies, then there isn't really an issue!!!, but it's still against the law for me to open the letter's addressed to my house. crazy world, i'll keep you posted, and thanks x x

Send letters unopened back to the sender writing Return to Sender simple.
