Cashflow Software / Spreadsheet

Hi there,

I've been tracking my finances for years using a fairly basic Excel spreadsheet which forecasts my cashflow in each account. I create rows for all the recurring transactions to the end of the year (pay, rent, bills, etc.) then I can see how much money should be in each account on any given date. I can then use that information to decide whether I have enough money to take a holiday (or how expensive the holiday should be!) or how much extra money I can put towards my debt each month. Every new unplanned transaction means I add a new row to the spreadsheet and - hey presto - it's up-to-date again!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any software - preferably free or cheap - that supported this type of functionality. Or, alternatively, if anyone else had created a good spreadsheet for forecasting personal cashflow. There's nothing really wrong with mine but it's not particularly user-friendly and if there's a better solution out there, I'd love to try it out!

Thanks,

Ben.

The simplest description is that is it a dedicated spreadsheet for finance.
It has built forecast for regular transactions up to 1 year.

I've been using it since January, it's excellent.
If you try the demo version PM me for a sample file to show how I use it, as it is very configurable.

  • Hi Ben, can't say it's better or worse - but have a go at downloading mine and see what you think (below).

I also have a slightly more advanced version (either sole, or joint) which I only send to folks if they ask me, as I didn't want to upload it if they thought it was too scary - the one currently online gets lots of hits and seems to be well liked. PM me if you want the others to compare tho.

  • I also use personal accounts 5 - have only just started, but am impressed so far. It can be downloaded for £19, but I bought mine from an Amazon marketplace seller for £12 or £13.
  • MS Money weighs in at about twenty odd quid for the basic version. Have used it for years and despite the odd tweak for the worse on each version, it usually improves with each release.
