I really dont have a clue and thought of coming here first.
I need 2 adult tickets to Birmingham via train. Has to be from London somehwhere. It is for my friends, they are going on 3rd December and coming back on the same day, need a ticket for monring and return for night.
They may take their child who is 7 with them if it is free.
Was wondering how much it would cost by train. Any 2 for 1 offers? Really dont know how it works.
Also, my sister will be paying for them via credit card but she is not going, so how would that work? Would the ticket office ask for ID? or would they say print something out and take that, that should work?
Thanks, really clueless!!!

Depending on how flexible you are Printathome offers excellent value. Unfortunately they keep changing the destinations on offer so no good for long term planning, but Birmingham is on the list at present. I've just checked, the offer is not available for the date you've given and they sometimes ask for credit card to be shown. Sorry about that.

Have a look at chilternrailways.co.uk They usually have some good deals, leaving from Marylebone. It's not quite as quick as Virgin from Euston, but generally cheaper.Debt free since December 2015. It can be done0

I second the chiltern railways suggestion, you don't even have to book in advance. Just turn up and return is £15, iirc.0

I used this Chiltern method and it was great. The service was a bit long winded ( two and a half hours ) but for a fiver who can grumble !!!
The £15 one is more flexible I think.
Chiltern trains were great though. Very clean and very on time.
Trains depart from Marylebone to Snow Hill. There are other Birmingham stops too I think.0
