Has anyone ever came across this before.
I was at my local shop this morning (half mile from home) and this lovely young cat was there and I gave it a clap.
I collected my son from school tonight and walked home only to find same cat following us. It followed us home and when I opened my front door it ran into the house - into one of the bedrooms and lay on the bed!
I have two dogs who went nuts - they hate cats.
Could not get the cat out of the house, every time I tried to catch it, it went into another room.
Anyway I left it for about an hour then decided to walk it back to the shop (it followed me all the way back) - and then it was gone!
Bit spooked out by it to be honest - do cats normally do this?

Sounds like the sort of thing one of mine would do.
We have a visitor as well who comes in for his breakfast, has a walk round the house, asks to go out the front door and strolls off down the road. We had another one who used us as a hotel, turned up out of the blue had dinner, bed and breakfast for three days and then was never seen again.
I think that's just cats.

It's the kind of thing my cat (or his brother) would have done a few years ago, when they were a bit younger. They're less social now they've become middle-aged and a bit lardy. But in their prime they used to go house-breaking, winding up dogs, stealing other cats' food and making friends with other humans."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0

Thank God for that - I was getting really spooked out by it

What does I gave it a Clap mean? Am I being thick?0

clap - means I stroked the cat0

Yes, my sister and I used to under strict instructions not to stroke any cat we saw on the way home incase it followed us - we had more than enough animals at home....Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Our new neighbors found buddy asleep on their bed about 2 days after they went out for the first time in our new house. Very embarrassing, haha, but they were very good about it!DFD February 2012

I made a fuss of a cat on the street who then followed me for a bit until I shooed it away. I got home and went out the back to get the washing in and he was sat at the back door waiting for me to open it, we live in a long terrace so he must have gone around the back, through several gardens until he got to my back door!0

As much as I always want to stroke and pet cats I see on the street, I don't, and I don't look back at them as I walk away, either, as many will follow you! It's perfectly normal, OP!
Although I have to say when you said you gave it a 'clap' I thought you meant you were clapping loudly to frighten it away!!
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I was also a bit worried! giving someone a 'clap' in south africa is slang for hitting someone hahaDFD February 2012
