Well I've been in tears all morning... Aparrently I now owe in the region of £27,000 due to charges applied by my bank. And I CAN'T claim them back coz it will be sold onto a debt collector etc...

The guy I spoke to from CCCS was lovely and explained everything to me but I still feel so worried about it all. He suggests going in to my local branch (clydesdale) with all my DMP info and explaining everything to them in the hope they'll freeze the charges.

I feel I'm taking 10 steps forward and 1000 back. What's the point of it all! I'm gonna be in debt forever at this rate....

What are the charges for? Are they coz you had defaulted on payments or just interest or what? Seems like an awful lot of money for them to add on, hope you sort it out, have a hug from me :grouphug:

Life is like a ferrari - it goes too fast - but thats ok because I can't afford it anyway!
  • i too dont see why you wouldnt be able to claim back your bank charges, i would go on CAG website and ask some one on there who will be in the know
  • Thanks guys, I just don't know what to do. I think tomorrow i'm gonna give Clydesdale a phone and try and get to the bottom of it all.

The charges are massive so I don't get it.

    I'll keep you posted

Dispute the charges as quickly as possible, that way the account is in dispute and cannot be sold onto a debt collector (well it can, but it makes things harder for them).

That may take a while so write a letter of complaint to your branch manager as well.

In a similar situation myself, one bank now keeps adding charges each month, the smallest creditor ironically.

  • Ok will do. It's ironic that my personal loan was for £5000 and they've added nearly £3000 in charges...............OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

    Thanks!

  • Really sorry about your set back LittleL :(

Do you know if your loan was a frontloaded one because this may explain the increase. It happened to us at the start of our dmp it went from just over £20k to £32k because 2 of the loans we had were frontloaded. It just seems too large an amount to be charges.

I hope you manage to find out tomorrow & will pop back to see how you get on xx

  • Please don't let this upset you, I have this problem with Nat west bank account. They have now decided to add interest onto the amount monthly at about £9 when my payment to them through CCCS is actually only £7.50, i worried like you sent numerous letters and though stuff it cos eventually they will pass it onto a DCA and then i will do a !!!!!! offer, i have 3 defaults against my name so whats the point in worrying, they can't do anymore damage. OK so its going up all the time but so what i cannot change the amount i give them monthly. Don't let it worry you, you are doing everything you can and CCCS will keep sending letters out to them to stop the charges. :)
  • Ok, thanks guys! I'm off to bed now to attempt a decent night's sleep then I'll tackle this in the a.m.

    I'll keep you posted

    Cheers!

Same thing happened to me at the beginning of my DMP, £4000 overnight from northern rock. They added the interest upfront which I would have had to pay had I carried on with the regular payments. CCCS told me it's their legal right to do so as per the credit agreement. At the time I was feeling pretty much the same as you, now however I'd rather that than the nasty little surprises the CC and OD people are doing to me every month.

    Good luck :)
