:o I was thinking IVA not IPA lol IPA, IVA and IPS, think I need a beer lol

Agree with you though, maybe if he see's it in black and white it might shake him up and help. You do need somehow to do it together though :)

  • My mom dosent qualify for carers allowance as she can cook a meal and dress herself (although she does this differently to us as she adapts to her home, she was born with a physical disability and severe lung restriction) it to long enough to fight for DLA for her :(

I have downloaded bankruptcy forms, sorted all paperwork in order and done an income and expenditure on the computer!
    a) for husband to read properly
    b) to fill out forms
    lots to do tomorrow!
Thanks for all your help and support xx
  • Hi minnie

At least you've made a start by querying things and looking on here - for a long time I thought debtlines and bankruptcy were for other people - not for a family in our situation. Once you get your head around things it makes life a lot easier for all of you. If you are struggling with your debts and cannot see a way out and envisage yourself living hand to mouth and robbing Peter to pay Paul for for the next 25 years or more then there are options for you - explore them all. Go to the advice lines suggested by people on here - do not pay solicitors anything.

Don't let your husband or yourself feel ashamed in any way - there's nothing lost in asking for help and advice - it is so much better than struggling on and not opening letters when they turn up, believe me, my husband and I have been there, done that, its not nice, but once you put your head above the parapet and start looking at what you can do, then life seems a little better day by day and you do see a light at the end of the tunnel. :j

It took us 2 to 3 years to get into the dire financial situation we found ourselves in before Christmas - we know its not going to be solved in 5 minutes but at least opening the post and realising that we are where we are was the kick up the backside which we needed.

Onwards and upwards is the motto of the day

Minni - you are the one who claims the carers allowance, but you're right in that your mum must receive a qualifying benefit. It's never too late to claim DLA (unless over 65 when it Attendance Allowance instead) and I've sent you a PM with some more info on that. Carers is to give you a little more money to compensate you for maybe not being able to work so many hours due to undertaking the support work.
