If your unsure, try and explain your worries to the winning bidder, then offer a second chance to the next highest bidder, and hopefully they'r in the UK.

I wouldn't risk it personally. Allthough, I did send a phone once to the netherlands, when the auction ended the bidder's location was UK. BUt then they said they had moved to the N. The phone wasn't worth much, so I posted it. The transaction was a success - Never do it again tho. "just in case" scenario.

Ive edit my listing to block buyers from countires I dont post too, and people with -1 feedback or lower.

  • Went to the post office and used what the guy recommended: International Signed For, costed me more than £7!!(I only charged £6 for p&p), the guy said I could buy the insurance so for up to £60 for 1.50, so I did. Hope it arrives safely within a week and the buyer is good, otherwise........there is no next time though, I have blocked international buyer for any of my item worth more than £10, thought they wouldn't bother to do scam on a low value item.

Thanks for all the advice, guys!
  • Hope it all goes ok. I take it the guy at the PO didn't ask if it was a phone?

    Compensation
We will pay compensation of up to £32 for loss or damage of items on production of a copy of the certificate of posting and proof of value. If you require extra compensation of up to £250 or up to £500 (depending on the country) there is an extra charge of £1.50 per item. Please note however when purchasing extra compensation that the maximum compensation for cash and money sent via International Signed For is £100 and extra compensation is not available for items containing mobile telephones.

I think it was a blooming cheek for the guy in the post office to charge extra for insurance when as fay points out, and has been pointed out several times on this thread, phones over £32 ARE NOT insured. Can I also ask the OP why she paid extra for insurance knowing it wasn't covered anyway?

Personally I would be writing to the RM asking fo rmy additional payment back as the guy in the PO obviously isn't up to date with the rules.

  • Fay & Soo, I don't know what to say!! I told the guy it was a used MOBILE PHONE in the parcel when he asked me what that is!!! And again he asked me value so I told him its about £60, then he told me about the £32 policy but he NEVER EVER mentioned mobile phone wasn't covered!! And I asked him again, he said for £1.50 the parcel can be insured for up to £60! ANd that's why I bought it!!!

I really don't know what to say.......maybe I should go back to the post office and ask him, but what if he is insisting his words is correct? SHould I bring a print out of the roymail webpage with me? Or what if he will pretend he didn't know it's a phone.........

Ask him to sign a piece of paper confirming that mobile phones are covered!

It won't be true, but it might help you in the (hopefully unlikely) event of a claim.

You were badly advised at the post office (although you were given good advice here:rolleyes:)

As is often the case :T

MSE were discussing the new pricing in proportion rules months before my post office had even heard of it, which was worrying. I find that some post offices can't release their staff to do any training at all, so they often have no real idea of changes or amendments to the systems.
