Ticks on a cat !!!!

To my horror I have found (and pulled out) one massive tick from Fred's tummy and 4 smaller ones (!!!!)

Does frontline prevent ticks going for a cat?

If not frontline, what can I get for this?

Still got to check other 3 cats... damn.....

One tip I got from the vets was to put frontline directly onto the tick.
Please ,please do NOT try to remove them with tweezers

I don't think you can prevent them from attaching in the first place but I might be wrong . :(

We've just found loads on ours, tick repellant did not work.

There are a new breed of European ticks which are invading the British isles.

European ticks have been invading this country for years, but on the subject of the feline variety, a vet told me to slap Vaseline on the tick. They suffocate and drop off.

They did not look like those....

All the legs were at the front... yukkkkkk

Only Fred though, check other 3 cats and the dog and none on them.....

    Damn it.....

By the way - vet is wrong, vaseline will not "suffocate" them, this is the same tale as "use butter" on them etc....

I am so angry, only let 2 cats out Fred and George into communal garden for an hour or so per day and Fred had 6 on him today poor thing.... must be from the blackberry bush they like to hide in.. grrrrr

Turning him upside down again to check for more... never seen a tick in my 20 years here in London

Oh really - is this a good time to mention that I am originally from Poland?

    ..............????

Well, the vet who talks "rubbish" is long established and well respected by his customers. The English are well known for being gullible, so I guess the vet may be taking the rise. I'll ask him next time I take my hamster for grooming.

Sorry, I made the mistake of trying to help - has dignity to keep tongue in mouth.

A few years ago I had a lovely tomcat who wasnt at all interested in tom cat stuff ;), but I decided that in case he changed his mind I'd have him 'done'. Typical, the day before the op, he stayed out overnight for the first time ever and arrived back home half an hour before I was due to take him to vet..... covered in ticks!!!! It was horrible, so I took him straight to the vet and asked what they recommended. They took him to get him neutered, but the vet nurses got as many of the ticks off with a tick remover tool like a small fork thing. They then put Frontline on him as they said that would protect him and get rid of the tiny ones they couldnt get.

He never had another tick in his life! We think he had slept where maybe a dead hedgehog or something had been....
