Anyone finding that 'genuine' HP inkjet cartridges don't give even close to their projected lifespan?

I installed a 300 Black cart yesterday, which on the pack says approx 200 pages - I printed some sheet music, which I'll grant you, may use a bit more ink than a thin typeface, but the cartridge expired after about 80....

I'd been thinking they weren't lasting too well on regular letter and document printing, but this just confirmed it.

Anyone got similar stories to tell?

I think I'll be going back to the refilled/recycled ones again........

Is your printer driver set to best quality or similar?

Reducing the quality to everyday or even draft will reduce the amount of ink used and also speed up printing.

I have mine set to draft/fast and double sided as a default and up the quality setting manually if needed for a presentation or photo.

    Hi,

We were finding that the HP (which are really expensive) were not lasting very long either.
So, we purchased refilled ones on eBay but then...they were not lasting either so,
We tried fountain pen ink and our cartridge has not run out yet and we filled it about xmas.

    Hope this helps!

if you print on a regular basis or have children who print homework or course work on a regular basis avoid all of the latest hp printers that take the following cartridges

    hp 300 series
    hp 301 series

hp use blanking plates in these cartridges please see image

has you can see most of the cartridge is just empty plastic
which explains why they don't last long
