Hi All,
Hoping for some advice, this morning i rang my bank (co-operative) to send funds to a relatives account, they bank with Santander.
I sent £300 via bacs but i got a digit incorrect out of the account number.
Is their anyway I can retain this cash?

Contact the Cooperative asap and request that they trace the payment. It may be to a completely invalid account, in which case it may be sitting in a suspense account somewhere. If it has gone into another person's account, banks do have procedures to recover the funds.Best Regards

Thanks.
If the acccount number I sent it to was invalid will it just bounce back to me?
I tried to see if the account number was valid on http://www.postcodeanywhere.co.uk/demos/bankvalidator.aspx
It says it wasnt.0 -

It is quite possible it will go into the recieveing bank's suspense account. Hence why it is best to do the trace, and they will be able to find out the status of the payment. There is a chance it could bounce back, yes.Best Regards

3 possibilities
-If it is someone else's account, Santander need to contact customer if need be and transfer it back to your coop account.
-If it's not an existing account, may go into Santander suspense account, so contact Coop to do bacs trace
-If it's not an existing account, may bounce back to Coop0 -
I did the same thing just a few weeks ago after just changing to Coop account and telling my company wrong Acc/No to send my salary! It was sent to an invalid account number and soon bounced back to my employers account. Took a couple of days to show up though. So I suffered a rather tight week!
Ring Santander and ask them to confirm that it is an invalid account no and then hold tight.0 -
Just as a bit of advise for the future, when ever I send someone money, I first send just £1, after all, thats never going to kill the bank balance if you never get it back, once verified then send the restOpinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others
