redundancy questions

After hearing the news my OH is losing his job, my lovely mum has just phoned me and said she has been made redundant:(
Just after a bit of help really - she has worked for the company for 8 years as a manager and they are part government funded. She had no idea the company was in trouble until yesterday when her staff told her she had not been paid - neither had she. She tried to contact the head office but no one answered.
She went into work this morning as normal and was met at the door by liquidators and a bailiff.:( She's still there now tying up lose ends of the owners of the company arent there and arent answering their calls. Apparently the decision was made yesterday. I'm gutted for her as she loved her job.
Is there anyway my mum can recover hher wages and those of her staff that are owed? Is it worth pursuing to get any redundancy package?
thanks guys x

If the liquidators are in then she has to apply to the government for her redundancy payment.
Statuory guideline
1 week for each year worked (1.5 weeks from age 41) capped at £400 pweek.
contractual notice pay 1 week, 1 month
any accrued holiday pay
pay to date.
The staff would have to apply individually for their own claims.
Have a look at the ACAS website for advice as to where to claim.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

thank you - they say things come in threes so am expecting an early baby/car to break etc etc
OH is lucky - he has until June to sort something and he isnt one to sit around moping, he's got a few interviews lined up so fingers crossed.
The liquidator had given my mam and all the staff the forms to fill out for the goverment redundancy and said it can take around 4-6 weeks to sort out. Luckily my mum is very careful with money and doesnt have any loans/credit cards etc, just the usual rent, bills to pay.
I saw her before, she's gutted cos she loved the job, had no idea and worked 60/70 hours a week for them.
I'll let you know how she gets on x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Yes please, I remember quite a number of years ago, i worked as a receptionist, loved every single moment of it and then they got a new tlephone system in, fine, then they got a closed circuit system in so that anyone who was close could meet and greet, that was me out of the door, it really was a shock to the system because youre out of the door there and then, believe me I cried for a fortnight.
Luckily I had another similar job within a month. But I remember the devastation like it was yesterday.
Good luck

well things are getting interesting! One of the (nicer) directors of the former company have been onto my mam today about setting the business back up:cool:
She's not getting too excited but is going to be meeting up with the director next week and two of her former staff, along with one of the liquidators who thinks they could still make a profit.
My mam has also done the online JSA application so we'll see how long that takes x
thanks again for all the advice x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Hi all just wanted to give an update - its looking good.
On the redundancy note, the liquidators have been in contact and my mam will be getting March's wages, plus a month's wage (for the month notice they should have had) plus the 15 days holidays she should have got.:D
She is at the Jobcentre as we speak (well, as I type) to see if she can sign on for a bit. I'm not sure what help she will get, she has a bit of savings plus will be getting the above wages through at the end of April so they might ask her to live off that.
On a plus side, the liquidators, a rep from the funding place, the landlord, my mum, two of the original staff and the nice director have a meeting tomorrow to see if they can get the company started off again:D
So good luck to everyone going through redundancy at the moment (my OH is also losing his job in June), keep positive xx:T:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0
