I know this this looks like spam but I promise it's not.

I have just been getting some car insurance quotes and some companies are charging £40 for motor legal protection.

After a bit of googling i found this company
https://www.bestadviceuk.com
which offers it for £12. has anybody used them or experience of them?

It seems the policy is underwritten by aspire claims.

I wonder what is the difference between taking this cover out and simply going to a no win no fee solicitor?

  • Following some money saving advice that I'd read last year, I opted for this cover instead of my insurer's more expensive legal cover. I would say that the company does seem low budget to the point where I'm left thinking, "am I actually getting real cover here?".

This year, I didn't receive a renewal notice. I called Best Advice, and the phone wasn't answered very formally, just a "hello" from a guy in a very quiet sounding office. The confirmation letter i received was not on proper headed paper; it was just a photocopy.

The other thing that makes me uncomfortable is the number of company names bandied around. The Best Advice website says they are actually part of TCM Claims Management, an insurance broker in Stoke. The website also says the protection is provided by Aspire Claims; however, the policy wording sent to me says it provided by Allianz Legal Protection.

All in all, I've been left feeling a little concerned. I don't want to be too quick to damn this company - but I'm left with a feeling of less than 100% confidence in what I've bought. I will probably look around for something else next renewal time.

I've used TCM / Total Claims Management Ltd / BestadviceUK for a number of years, but have never had to use their services. In that time the cost has risen from £4.99 to £12 and the service has taken a dive. I have just experienced the same lack of quality service, to the point where when ringing for advice I had to prompt them to take my name and address to post confirmation. Confirmation arrived with a badly hand written envelope, standard leaflet and copy of letter clearly intended for someone else and nothing to confirm that our car was covered.

I am very unimpressed and do not want to test their legal services.
  • Thanks Worlestone, you've confirmed what I thought. I don't think I will buy legal cover through this company next year. I'm tempted to call the insurer (Best Advice is just the broker; I believe the insurer is Allianz) to check if this cover is genuine.

If you have ever worked for the civil service or any company doing work previously done by them (such as Capita), CSMA include motor legal cover for member + spouse as part of the membership fee of £15 a year. (introducers get a reward so have a look at Referrers board first).

I've never had cause to use it so I can't comment on their quality
