can anyone tell me if there any sites which I can compare gas and electricity for businesses. Currently with Southern Electric/Gas and my parents contract for gas is due to end. they have been quoted 2.829 p/kwh plus a £41.64 metering charge/year but I'm not sure if this is cheap of expensive. Any cashback or freebies with it would be a bonus. Any advice would be great.

not sure how good it is, but it does seem to be a comparison website of sorts

There are brokers around who do a similar thing, can't think of what keywords to put in on google to find out who
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • As a buyer for a large company for years we have had real problems getting prices out of companies. We now use a company that was mentioned in this forum (businessSwitch.co.uk)that had a lot of good content on their site which I took on board before talking to them.
The business energy market is totally different to the domestic market. Businesses will tend to be in 1-2-3 year contracts and the prices for smallish users change every week or so, the prices for larget users will change every couple of days.
Richard at BusinessSwitch.co.uk gave me a lot of very useful information (very unusual for a brokereage!) about how it all works. They had tried to put a comparison web site together but the complexity of the market made it next to impossible plus the companies are not obliged to release their pricing data, unlike the very regulated domestic market. Another point we have found is that renewal prices for our contract always seem to be 30% higher than Richard's prices. This apparently is because, like banks etc, the power companies tend to offer the best deals to get new business, while penalising existing customers who cannot be bothered to shop around. I spent years ringing around power companies getting nowhere fast.
I would reccomend using a professional for business energy
