i like your thinking, and yes it is an obscene waste of tax payer money. i am researching this company at the moment and i can only speculate on what they are charging the gov but im guessing its a lot. you would think there would be different help for graduates.

Every sympathy with your girlfriend, but just as a point of issue, there are lots of people without Degrees that are equally as intelligent! Not sure that graduates should get special treatment, but I can see a case for the Job Centre making people take an exam to see what type of help they would benefit from, it is pointless expecting someone to do basic maths and english if they are already more than capable of this in the first place, this applies to people with degrees as well as ones without a degree.

Hope her situation resolves its self, and agree taking in a hidden camera could be a VERY BAD IDEA.
Opinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

Service Attributable Pension - War Pension - War Pensioners Unemployability Supplement - War Pensioners Invalidity Allowance - War Pensioners Comforts Allowance - War Pensioners Mobility Allowance - War Pensioners Child Allowance - Housing Benefit - Council Tax Benefit

Surely she should call the police if she has witnessed someone being attacked?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Should the moral responsibility not lie with the person who was assaulted or at least one of the senior members of staff? Following your earlier advice it would "not make her popular" if she where to speak out or act as a witness to the assault, so now you are contradicting your own logic. *Wonder why? Seeing as there are 20-30 people in the room, one of them recently released from a prison sentence i think your earlier advice more appropriate. Not grassing on a violent person that you may have to spend 3 months with sounds sensible.

*Anyway, i appreciate you taking the time to add to this thread but i feel that your input is continually trying to deviate discussion away from the issue. For some reason you are trying to steer this into some generalised moral debate. I am familiar with your username and have witnessed you trolling other peoples posts in a similar subtle, condescending style. You are welcome to reply to this comment but i will not read or respond to it. No hard feelings :)

Not sure that graduates should get special treatment,

cheers. maybe the camera is a bad idea on reflection. I agree that graduates shouldn't not get special treatment but as i said a different approach is needed. You can guarantee they know basic English for one! might save the gov a few quid? I have ZERO qualifications myself :D

You would have thought so wouldn't you, but you'd be amazed at the number of graduates who lack basic skills; both literacy and numeracy! This is not a reflection on your girlfriend btw, and not all graduates have basic skills issues before I get a torrent of abuse from anybody with a degree! ;) Personally I blame spell checkers on pc's and texting! :D

I'm assuming she has registered with the Graduate Talent Pool for internships, but if not here is the link:

    http://graduatetalentpool.direct.gov.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/p!ecaaefg

Also have a look at Next Steps website - might be a few useful hints and tips:

One thing I'd say, is that a lot of graduates have not been given best advice on how to apply for jobs, what to say, what NOT to say, where to look for jobs, etc., so some of these things should be addressed by Providers. There is a wide background of people on these schemes and unfortunately one size does not fit all, so sometimes the phrase 'teaching to suck eggs' will be appropriate.

Oh yes, and as for the hidden camera - not a very good idea. What do you think would happen to your girlfriend if one the extremely disruptive elements on the course found out and took offence? They have no respect for the Training Provider if they assaullted them, so would have even less for your girlfriend.

Raise it through the proper channels, and if necessary you can write to your MP as you have mentioned.

I think she should stick with the hidden camera, she can always blur or edit the troublemakers then take it to a legal aid lawyer,MP, then stick it on youtube. It also means if she can afford to leave the course she has evidence for her appeal.

There is a big difference between seeing someone act in a way which could be deemed banter and something that is a blatant crime. Moral responsibility lies with all us when it comes to reporting crime. If someone saw you being assaulted, would you rather they walk on by or call the police?

Big difference there though. If you see someone getting attacked in the street, you can phone the police with some anonymity. Doing the same with someone you would most probably be sitting next to for a number of weeks would put you in a very vunerable situation if the offender found out. The chances are if they would attack a member of staff, they wouldn't think twice before wading into you. Moreso if you have already had some abuse.
  • Why waste your time with this course? Just get any old Mcjob to put you on for the meantime and concentrate on applying for roles you really want.

Forget about your Girlfriend being a Graduate for the moment, its not important. Her aim is to get out of this enviroment and the quickest way to do that is to get some temping job in admin, cleaning, factory etc. Not only will she be out of CTF but she will be earning way more than JSA as well.

Check on the My(nameofnearestcity) websites eg MyNorwichjobs. There is bound to be something any Joe can turn their hand to

No Jobs, I do know that a good number have started work this week and there are a lot waiting. Its all a question of somebody coming to the point where they will take anything, which in this recession is the best you can hope for

These mandatory courses are horrendous! Somebody I know was given the choice of chopping wood, stripping computer circuit boards or building a breeze block wall! He even tried to persuade them to allow him to find some work experience for 3 weeks in the field that he had worked in for over 20 years but they said no. He chopped wood for 30 hrs a day for 3 weeks. What a waste of peoples time and tax payers money!
